C WFH S: My boss is still doing the "I need everyone to be super productive this week so I scheduled 2 hours of planning + daily team check-ins" thing, just over video chat instead of in person.

The good news is I'm transferring teams in a month and the new boss seems pretty chill. The bad news is that I've gotta wrap up all my current projects in that month and I'm finding it harder and harder to give a poo poo, since on top of the regular covid-19 stuff I also have team senioritis. teamioritis

Don't believe the hype. California has enough water, we are just very bad at using it to sustain human life instead of megafarmer profits

A programmer goes to his TL, and says "My project has grown overly complicated and interdependent. It's impossible to reason about or refactor without risking breaking everything. What should I do?"

The TL says, "There's a great new testing framework out this month. Go use it, and it will give you the confidence to simplify and refactor your code."

The programmer cries in dismay. "But TL—my project is the testing framework!"

White boomers have basically never experienced any adversity at all ever in their entire lives. They have absolutely no conception of what it is like to have any sort of hardship. "You have to stay at home and can't have dinner parties with your friends and no one will serve you while you shout at them for a few months" is literally the worst possible thing they have ever experienced in their privileged sheltered existence and they are absolutely losing it and it is going to end up killing millions.

I mean idk the Vietnam War probably counts as adversity for the boomers who got drafted. I'd definitely take dealing with this pandemic over that, that was a horrifying war for pretty much everyone involved

It's cool, my hair is just getting increasingly rock and roll.

Also when I finally shaved my corona beard, my wife convinced me to stop at a goatee instead of going clean shaven. She says she really likes how it looks on me but I always wonder if I just look like a huge tool

Incidentally I hate that people in the US go around using words like "gyp" and if you try to tell them it's racist as gently caress against the Roma (it's exactly the same as using "Jew" as a verb) it's like "oh no you can't be racist against gypsies that would be silly, they're not like a real racial group that it makes sense to be racist against like black people." And this is like liberals, not chuds.

I've had multiple conversations with otherwise intelligent, left-wing, and pro-social justice people, where I will mention racism against the Roma people and they will respond with "yeah but I watched this reality show about them and they are just super trashy people", and I then have to explain to them (1) reality shows aren't reality, (2) what they watched was race-baiting garbage, and (3) they shouldn't fall for that sort of thing. So far they've all come around after I talked about it but it's wild to me that they never stopped to think any of those things before. I guess it goes to show that everyone is susceptible to propaganda.

it's great, gas stoves are antiquated and unnecessary and there's no need to put them into new construction. induction cooktops have basically all the upsides of gas with functionally no downsides. plus they're way easier to clean. they will also heat up dishes faster than gas.

Well, there's the downside that most people's pans don't work with them
