no mandatory wfh yet north of the border in vancouver. wouldn't mind if there's a week or two of it though. roll out of bed at 9am, log into jabber, schedule some power naps throughout the day as "meetings"

I liked rogan's interview with james hetfield from metallica because hetfield got totally fuckin sober in the early 2000s (and even goes back into rehab voluntarily if he feels it coming back to him) and watching rogan try to parse the totally happy experiences of someone who's 100% drug and alcohol free and committed to it is like watching someone realize that capitalists aren't your friend at the same time as they're learning that santa isn't real and there is a word for that feeling you have after you wake up night after night from having dreams in which you're inexplicably a girl

been rewatching Narcos the past few days and it's kind of a weird thing how they all hyped up the long journey to the death of Pablo Escobar, both in the show and in reality not that I'm trying to glorify drug kingpins but it's two seasons of "when are they gonna kill Pablo" and the back half of the second season is all about him and his family and it's kinda actually devastating when he finally eats a bullet. like, yeah, okay, dude ordered the assassination of thousands of people, but he was a family man as well? it's weird. I actually feel worse about Pablo loving Escobar's death than I do someone like John Lennon 1am beer and netflix thoughts

any game that launches with even slightly realistic shotguns with proper chokes and such gets a patch within six weeks that nerfs them into oblivion, unless it's some kind of simulator like Arma and engagements are genuinely at 100m+ distances except you have one guy bring a shotgun for breaching

god that and the ACE add-on for realistic radio comms. imagine having to have a radio guy with each group and know every other group's frequencies and poo poo so you can relay orders between them, and you have to punch this into a realistic military radio interface. big enough games needed dudes with literal radio backpacks and poo poo and through all of this you're doing a canned mission you've done dozens of times before plinking at loving AI

CRIP EATIN BREAD posted:there's squad, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E5Foyre18VQ which only the squad leaders have radio comms with other leaders, so its like 5 squads of 8 players vs another 5 squads. All coordination has to be done via the leaders, otherwise all voice chat is local (within hearing range) or just to your squad leader. I've played that one and it's kinda fun in that it scratches the uber tactical realism itch while not being so over-complicated that it makes me want to go enlist so I can punch frequencies into a broken-rear end piece of poo poo radio in real life because at least that has tactile feedback. doesn't really have the lasting appeal or playerbase to sustain it other than the same 200 people who play it six hours a day every day though. tbh I'm waiting for valorant. counter-strike was my jam through the 2000s and I'm looking forward to a take on that style of gameplay by a developer who actually gives a poo poo about things like producing balance patches regularly
