WFH in seattle area as well. mgmt OK'd people coming in and taking their good work monitors home so i'll probably do that tomorrow. Except none of them have stands and I really don't want to bring that loving mount home....hmm

IDK i just literally typed "same 4k monitor we have in Denver office" on the google form. ill post the model when it comes in.

I'm going to be completely honest with my feelings here

anybody that still voluntarily goes on a cruise in this hellworld, with this corona, and this global climate shift, and this unemployment, and this exploitation of brown people, deserves whatever they get on said cruise. And they should not be able to spread their idiot illness on others. thus i propose a government subsidy to bring all cruises down to $99 and mandatory 1 year quarantines on said megaboat.

i realized that literally the only two things keeping me going right now are dreaming about 1: buying a small cottage, recently bleached, with a couple acres from a bank liquidation in a year or two, and 2: as soon as this first wave blows over, going from "poo poo i got rid of my prepper stash because people made fun of me and said it was weird and now I have like 10 cans of food" to having my dwelling packed floor to ceiling with tidy, inventoried shelves full of six months of living supplies and telling anybody else that calls me a hoarder to gently caress the hell off

retirement has completely vanished
growing old is fading
i will never find a job at another company as good as this one, so career is out (note that i am still very secure and my company is doing well, but the scythe eventually comes for all the wheat)

all i have is hope of becoming a tidy, funny hermit and making twitch streams showing people how to operate their new ham radio

buying 144 rolls of toilet paper every time the store has any in stock, the activity under discussion, is not emergency prepping. as a matter of fact you don't even need toilet paper to live. strange but true.

everyone should have a well stocked first aid kit, flashlights with spare batteries, methods of starting fires, and about a month (being frugal) of dried/canned/frozen food. your house probably has at least 2 weeks just by default if you do a normal amount of cooking and are not an incompetent facebook employee. you don't need to stockpile water because if the emergency seems imminent you just fill up your bathtub and that'll keep you going until a better system is set up. if you are really worried, maybe get a couple of 5-gallon jericans and put them in your shed.

going beyond that is getting into doomsday idiocy.

Just knowing how to shoot gun and know not to point it at people is one small part of using a gun. I do enjoy how much all these prepper types seem to know very little about guns and gun safety.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wHOog45llUU

I wonder how many preppers have gun cleaning kits in their 'bug out bags'/compounds? Erryone seems to think that a metal rod that is meant to contain an explosion never needs proper maintenance ESPECIALLY if you are going to be using consistently in real scenarios. Also  at preppers for thinking they are going to be staying up 24/7 sitting in their loving hunting blind to watch out for 'bad guys' and still be able to function enough to not jam their gun, not realize it, and end up having it blow up in their face? Also what if the other guy is a better shot, especially considering they all seem to be office dads who probably struggle to hit a stationary target.

Also extra  at preppers thinking they:
1. Have the self-control to not gorge on their resources.
2. Have nearly enough resources.
3. Going to live off the land with zero agricultural experience/more than basic garden work with pesticides or live long enough for animal populations to come back in any meaningful way to facilitate active hunting.
4. Actually physically capable of any of this in the first place.

Man, gun companies, army surplus stores, and hiking shops are going to make a killing after this.

their plan is:

0: murder people for their supplies and take their daughters as wives

that's it. that's all they really want. 99% of pre-covid preppers are the absolute dregs of society and their one hail mary for having sex again is having 95% of humanity wiped out so they're the least ugly person in the compound. this is why they fixate on things like nuclear war
