The Management posted:I was looking for a 4K monitor with usb c and basically the options out there are mostly garbage. the rare few can’t be seen in person and take weeks to deliver usb-c is good for phones but it sucks rear end for things like that and docks cause the cable gauges tend to be too thick for the tiny connector. they should have made it either magnetic or given it a latch like display port has. maybe Microsoft should have made the surface connector non-proprietary. it worked pretty well but it was stupid to have to carry it around instead of something standardized.

the solution there is to lock down your phone via MDM or not allow it on the network. the solution is not to let your personal computer on the network.

DELETE CASCADE posted:hangouts meet has worked better for me than ringcentral yeah ringcentral's meeting stuff is just rebranded zoom and zoom is not great. Teams has been working fine for us, but we also are used to working from home a ton and all of our call center staff work on what is basically a remote model even if they're in the call center. our biggest problem sending people remote right now is getting enough USB headsets.

most conference systems allow the presenter to mute everyone and then people can click a button to "raise their hand" and the presenter can unmute them so they can ask the question. nobody knows how to do this though because most presenters are boomers dialing in without the conference app.

DELETE CASCADE posted:i went to a range once and shot pistols with a coworker who was into that. he had a few different ones including like a .40 caliber. i had never even held a gun before so i expected to be terrible at shooting, probably mess up my forearm from the recoil, etc. but instead the main thing i remember is how loving EASY it was. like i'm sure competitive target shooting is difficult, but just pulling the trigger and hitting the paper target was so easy a caveman could do it. i couldn't get the thought out of my head, "wow if i had one of these and i needed to kill someone, it would be absolutely no problem at all" i think people get a skewed view of firearms from "modern" shooters like battlefield where the guns are all nerfed and given random stat differences to provide gameplay variety like recoil and bullet drop.

Powerful Two-Hander posted:is this some new management thing? because we've started with it and some of it is insane, like PMs demanding that all work have jira items and producing these incredibly complicated diagrams that link multiple jiras across instances and have titles like "quantifying the work being done" if someone asks me to do something and its not in a jira ticket i probably wont do it. once they open a jira ticket it gets added to the pile and prioritized so people have realistic expectations of how things are gonna get done.

that kind of specific itemization is only really useful if you're billing that time back to a client. for internal stuff you don't need to be that detailed task wise.

Midjack posted:it still offers super granular access controls on databases so if you’re running a crazy theranos paranoia situation it probably has some benefits but lol at using it as an email system. notes access control lists are absolutely loving terrible because they're based on a string representation of user/group common names. If you change someone's name, their common name changes, and it will break the access control list. This is why there is a loving rename user "task" in domino that processes name changes. it renames the user (simple) but then also goes thru every database acl and swaps the old common name for the new common name. also user renames must be "accepted" by the user because notes client authentication uses public key auth and the private key is stored in an .id file that contains the user's name details. the rename task requires the user to manually update their id file with their new username. if the user has multiple devices, of course its only done once, so user.id files get out of sync pretty much all the time. They added a user.id sync system to like notes 8.5 or something but it still didn't work all the time. im so glad i don't have to administer domino anymore.
