Servaetes posted:She said that this episode and the show kinda gives her Lost vibes. I never watched the show, but she's told me that it was incredibly good and then near the end got aggressively stupid, to the point it poisoned the experience. Was it like Dexter ending levels of stupid or something further beyond? Lost was airing during the big writers' guild strike in.. 09? 10? and the season that aired that year really took a loving tumble, as did everything else promising on TV at the time (looking at you, Heroes) Once the strike ended, it got... better? But the whole thing just felt stupid and up its own rear end and just kinda throwing out MYSTERIES for the sake of MYSTERIES, a lot of WW Season 2. I'm hoping that WW Season 3 recovers more in the manner of Heroes season 4 where it kind of dropped all the baggage it had and went in a new direction and told a straightforward story and was better for it. Dexter is a mess that we may never see replicated in our lifetimes.

Megillah Gorilla posted:Heroes came back and it was an even bigger mess. Not even in a fun way. Oh, don't get me wrong-- I think Heroes season 2 was during the writer's strike and it was bad, and then season 3 was post-strike and it was loving dreadful And then season 4, after everyone had stopped watching, they simplified it down into like a Magneto's Brotherhood of Mutants story and it's pretty good.

When Arnold Schwarzenegger squares off with Robert Patrick, I'm invested in the Terminator fight because I empathize with the T800 and his motivations, and the T1000 has been established as an unstoppable, unkillable, machine assassin When Delores and Maeve square off, I don't know what the gently caress Delores is fighting for or if she's even supposed to be the character I empathize with, and Maeve has been consistently punked out for three seasons

I don’t see any way that the finale can be meaningful and satisfying right now Going to quote my own post three days from now.

Owlbear Camus posted:I'm surprised the consensus is S2 good/S3 bad. I couldn't really sit through S2, which is a feat- making samurai and cowboy robots killing each other boring, while S3 I was able to go into without having finished S2 as a reasonably good standalone cyberpunk story. No no, the overwhelming consensus is "S2 awful, but the high points are very, very high"

This show is just a bunch of "hey that's a cool idea, we should do that" and nobody ever stopping and thinking about those ideas or how to put them together Hale got a sweet new upgraded body to standoff against William! But all she does is survive one knife to the gut. Also the new skeleton did not have any gut armor so that didn't really mean anything. Cool? I guess? Clementine is back (I do not understand why Clementine is back) and had a character moment and wanted to... go kill the human survivors? I guess? Bernard goes on a big soothsaying journey to uh... ..... he just needed to tell Hale she hosed up, I guess? I suppose the plot of season 4, in a nutshell, is that - Dolores created Dolores - Dolores went insane because Dolores was not Dolores - Dolores created Dolores - Dolores took over the world with the help of Dolores - Dolores became god - Dolores put Dolores inside the city's brain - Dolores went insane because Dolores was not Dolores - Dolores got tired of being god - Dolores tried to kill all of the humans and hosts, including Dolores - Dolores didn't die, so Dolores got a new body so that Dolores could stop Dolores - Dolores killed Dolores, so that Dolores could install Dolores into robot heaven - Dolores killed herself - Dolores became god - And also Aaron Paul was there Sockser fucked around with this message at 05:50 on Aug 15, 2022 |

Internet Savant posted:Season 5: 8 timelines, 8 episodes, 1 timeline per episode. This would have been a way better concept for season 4 than what we got 7 episodes of Bernard getting domed in the desert or setting off a nuke, 1 episode of something better than whatever the hell we actually got for a finale

Heroes and Lost both have the excuse of being destroyed by the writer’s strike Heroes season 4, post-strike, is actually pretty very good! (But it was way too late to not get cancelled at that point) Westworld failed on its own merits.
