That’s the one.

Every time you do that orb daily you get a daily quest ticket.

You can trade those in for gear at one of the shops on the bushy bazaar

If you don’t have three metal weapons go ahead and pull a metal banner.

If you do, at a minimum, wait until tonight - the dq3 pt 2 banner goes up and the dq3 banner part 1 is around for another week so you can compare. (And also get a free pull to better figure out if you need more gear and what kind you need)

90% of the value of metal weapons long term is just being able to do 1 damage with every swing against a metal slime, and they're all equally good for that, and the best case scenario is being able to do that on all three of your characters.

But yes, 1 or 2 is also probably fine if you're underwhelmed by the caster metal banner.

Pretty much this. It’s one of the most punishing gachas I’ve seen in years. Not as surprising given it’s a game from 2015 and this was more typical back then. But I can’t imagine sticking with it for more than a couple months unless they make drastic changes to the gacha for the international version and there’s no indication of it so far.

Also I wouldn’t worry too much about getting a third metal weapon. On the subreddit someone posted that JP players said there’s always some kind of metal banner and we always get a free daily pull off it. So you’ll luck into one eventually without spending gems.

I mean, I get that the casino is a dragon quest staple and all, but the prices on the redemptions are literally off by an order of magnitude or two for me to engage with this poo poo for mostly cosmetic stuff.

Like, an hour of playing this awful coin push game left me at basically break even (actually, down about 20% from my starting pocket), before the various mission bonuses (which did bring me to a reasonable profit).

And you can't exchange gold for coins if you're above 3000, so that's not a backdoor way to get enough.

Soooooooo I guess you need to double or nothing the moronic left or right game (literally just calling a coin toss) 17 times in a row if you want to unlock the new vocation?

Yeah, I'll get right on that. Those odds seem pretty good. I never did take statistics in college.

Waiting to see if the next banner is inspiring enough to keep me from quitting. Bored and barely logging in with 38.5k gems in the bank. Maybe if the next banner is any good I can burn some gems and get cool new toys. Or if all the pulls suck I’ll just quit.

This game got tedious shockingly quickly. The multiplayer is still kinda cool but they need to massively pick up the pace of events or at least release better events if they want to hold players interest. The casino is insultingly terrible.

Yeah, it feels very dated in 2020.

They had an insane amount of goodwill with the DQ licence and were doing a ton of things right to push the nostalgia buttons in my brain. But the game feels the same as ten other gacha games I’ve played over the last decade. There’s nothing I feel inspired to work towards, nothing in the gacha I’d be particularly excited to pull and the UI is clunky as hell.

Maybe I should just bank my gems and quit for a couple years while they rush out five years worth of updates. Come back in 2022 so I can play the 2020 JP version of the game.

Burnt about 26k gems and got mostly trash. Lots of 1/10 off banner junk pulls. Ridiculously little to show for so many gems.

Then I logged into Dissidia Opera Omnia and got Sephiroth EX off the free pull.

Thinking that’s a sign from the gacha gods that it’s time to move on. The draw rates in DQotS are shockingly trash. It really is a throwback to what was acceptable in gacha titles 5+ years ago.

Edit: Did three more pulls to burn my remaining gems and deleted the app. 1/10 Lunar Fan was one of the pulls.

Have fun everyone. I hope it gets better, if it ever does maybe I’ll reroll and try again.

Well, there’s a bunch of new free gems coming in because it’s a new month with new treasure maps, new friends bonuses, etc, so you ought to be able to get 1-2 more pulls on this rubiss banner which is likely to be the last major power creep for a while (it’s a few years of fast forward relative to release order in JP I think?), and which has some incredible caster gear on it sooooo... good luck.

This came up in a conversation, but I figured it was worth committing to the thread for posterity;

quote:

Basically, if I had to do a tier list of advanced vocations right now it'd probably be something like:
S: Superstar, Sage w/ appropriate weapon/skill support
A: Armamentalist w/ good weapon/skill loadouts, Pirate
B: Paladin, Monster Master, Armamentalist without a perfect gear setup
C: Battlemaster, Sage without 'perfect' gear setups

Other than Arma/Sage, you can basically drop all of those one tier for not using appropriate gear/skills; those two fall off harder. A bit more explication because I've got time:

Superstar: Is clearly the S tier healer and multiplayer group option in the game right now. Ideally you have a Gingham Whip, or a Metal Boomerang, or one of a handful of Bows to make this class work, since the optimal load out is as many healing spells as you can fit on your green slots, Soothing Song/Blessed Balm on a blue cross slot if you can find it, and lol nothing else matters for the rest. Hustle Dance and On Stage are an absolutely overpowered combo of abilities, though at the very high end, Hustle just can't keep up with incoming damage and well geared sages/self healing becomes the more common meta. Still, Superstar good. Get one as soon as you pull an appropriate weapon.

Sage The other S tier class with the right gear, it should be noted that "the right gear" is Rubiss Staff, a Sages Staff, or a Metal Slime Staff to get to that tier. If you've gotten two of those weapons and been able to melt one of the latter two (esp. a Sages) to use the spells from both on one weapon, we're talking S+++ tier right now probably. Just absolutely out of this world burst damage and healing potential. If you have one of the other Gacha staffs (Esp. the Celestial Scepter, with it's Kasizz), or want to farm a Staff of Clarity from the current Zoma event up to it's 10x max evolution, you can put together something pretty competent.

In general, to do well with Sage, you want a weapon with at least two Orange and two Green slots, with at least one of each being B or above. (Main skill can count as one of these, so long as it's not a green slot being 'wasted' on something like Dazzle).

Armamentalist Has a similar problem to Sage, but much less severe - basically for this class to work, you want one of the big chase swords like Rubiss/Erdrick/Sword of Kings/Lightning Sword, and, in the case of some of these (Looking at you Erdrick), you also want a good spell attack from another separate weapon pull (Zapple is real good here). But Arma doesn't fall off as hard as Sage does without the right weapon support. So long as you've got any orange slot, and are willing to tailor your spell choice to the weakness of the fight you're heading into, Armamentalist will be pretty decent. Whereas Sage without a lot of luck or effort falls off hard.

Pirate is probably the best pure physical class in the game right now. The stat chassis is reasonably close to Battlemaster for damage, trading a little bit in for survivability (which is good). The passive +1 duration onto all buffs owns against any boss that doesn't just strip them non stop (looking at you Leonidas and Zoma...), and High Seas Shanty's breath damage mitigation is never going out of style. Blast is... fine. The cool down is way too long to use it as anything but a finisher, but it sure does look cool and bring big hurt. And the weapon versatility is top notch.

Paladin is the class I struggled the most to slot on to this list. The survivability is great, and I think Battle Buddy is among the most underrated skills in the game. (Use it on a Superstar while they're dancing to prevent interruption! Use it in lieu of Defend to Defend for two party members with one button push! Cover the Battlemaster when they get Angry like a moron!). And with the right weapons, they can easily mind themselves with self cast Midheals, etc. as needed, which is something most other physical classes struggle with unless you lucked out and pulled both Meditation, and have a weapon set up to slot Meditation into. But Solar Flair sucks, the weapon list is trash tier, and their damage output just isn't great. They're a good fit in your party if you have the right weapon, but they don't do well as a main multiplayer choice right now, and in general, you have better options. (Special mention though, Paladin has one of the best bonuses to hand out to your other classes for getting to level 80)

Monster Master is kind of the inverse of Paladin's situation. The stat chassis is... quite good! And the weapon options own (Swords! Axes! Hammers! Bows!). Breath attack can hit like a loving train. Or... y'know, it could be a whole lot of hot air and a waste of a very long CT. Crunch... sucks. The Monster Whistle stuff can hopefully come into it's own as they add more whistles, but for now, the only whistle in the game is just aoe damage and a low chance trip proc, so it isn't really enough to justify the class. It's a perfectly adequate choice if you need someone to hold a bow and do damage. Otherwise, probably look to Pirate or Arma.

Battlemaster sucks. I sure do love getting into a multiplayer group with three Battlemasters, one using a dagger, and another carrying a bow! It's great watching them hit Anger right at the start of a boss fight and then get owned by the big spell cast when they can't defend! It's exciting to watch them press Charge Crash and do garbage damage and not actually lower the boss's cast time, instead of hitting the actual skill on their weapon that does damage. Or better yet, hitting their metal skill increasing the cool down of the good buttons, while, again, doing no damage! I love battle masters! :downs:

(They'll come into their own later, as new armor skills make defend less essential, and pairing with a Paladin can mitigate how bad Anger is, and they do have the highest raw ATK stat in the game... but, for almost anything you want to do, you can do it better with Not a Battlemaster.)

Also, for those interested in How To Do the absolute hardest content in the game that's actually beatable (As opposed to Legend/Fiend Estark, which, essentially, just exist to be meat grinders and own the poo poo out of even whales right now), here's a youtube video/guide

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPZ8NjhJ7iw

I did it with a group from the reddit discord the other day; we were Superstar/Pirate/Arma/Sage (me on Sage, Sages Staff, Kafrizz/Zapple), and it was legitimately challenging AF but a lot of fun. Took like 20+ minutes for the run, not counting the half hour we spent discussing/prepping/going over each others inventories to figure out ideal Crack/Ice Breath/Frizz/Spell damage/Breath damage resist sets to make sure that we didn't just get one shot repeatedly. The crafted charms from the Bushy Bazaar are really good here. Make a bunch.

The tl;DW of the fight:

For food, you probably want a Pizza Slime (or Curry, if unavailiable), Fruity Ice, Caramel Popcorn, +1 food. (+1 STR food or Def or Resil food or Crack resist food all options)
Everyone should bring a Revive Stone, an Ygg Dew, an Ygg leaf or Bud, and the best healing herb they can find (Special Medicine or Star Fruit probably).

He starts out with a huge -Magic Damage buff that means you need physical damage dealers for most of the fight. He alternates between casting KaCrack (aoe ice damage, the least threatening of his spells, especially if some people are using Metal Slime Shields to fully negate it - be careful with timing as he'll dispel that buff periodically), C-C-Cold Breath (Also aoe Ice damage, but it's breath damage, so different resistance, and it hits harder than KaCrack. Bringing a Pirate is nice because they can Sea Shanty right before it goes off - not too soon! He'll dispel it!), and Destructive Light. Basically everybody needs a shield with maxed defend skill, preferably with some additional kicker like a heal, or mag negate or whatever, and they need to defend right before every Crack/Breath goes off or they'll get owned. Destructive Light can't be defended against - it's that black ring that appears under people (normal Zoma uses this too! It's why everyone drops dead at the end because nobody understands how it works!), and causes them to take damage every time they auto attack or hit a skill button. The person who has it needs to stay topped off, minimize their actions (defend or self heal only basically), and wait for it to fade.

Every time he moves to a new healthbar/color, he'll cast KaFrizz, which is a big single target fire nuke (another resist to wear!), and it will probably kill someone, which is why you rock revive stones.

When he's half dead, he'll start doing double magic damage. It's otherwise the same fight though, so you basically keep on trucking, but it might be time for a Dew.

When he hits his last health bar, poo poo Gets Nasty: he puts Destructive Light on everyone, and begins to cast Fall of the Stars. If that goes off, everyone dies. And it double casts, so your revive stone won't save you. So it's a DPS race from this point. The good news is, he loses his anti-magic shield at this point, so the Sage who has been sitting around casting heals and maybe plinking a kafrizz for double digit damage the entire fight is suddenly READY TO SHINE. The bad news is, he gains massive physical damage resistance (like, minus 95% - our Pirate's Blasts were hitting for 3-6 damage per hit). So your physical damage dealers basically just need to cast something, anything, in order to start putting up chain multipliers, then your Armamentalists use Magic Flurry (which does damage on one of it's hits, and more importantly, counts as two chain multiplier hits), and then your Sage hopefully makes the boss go boom with a combination of Zapple and Kafrizz. All through this, you panic heal, (but don't interrupt the chain! Items will interrupt the chain! Be topped off before the push, then heal after the big chain), and pray to do enough chip damage have revive stones go off to finish off what HP is left and end the fight.

For all of this effort, you get a very cool looking shield with a ton of defense, but a 30 second cool down on it's defend skill. (AKA, garbage, but it looks really cool and lets you tell everyone in your future multiplayer groups what a badass you are.)

the good news is that auto battle sucks and other than using it to blast through the story content (which you can do inside of the free month), it's not really a good idea.

(The Sub also gives you a free guaranteed 5* weapon per month and a stamina refresh every day. So it's ~~40 bucks worth of gems stuff for 9 bucks. Getting a bad auto battle feature thrown into that is... a questionable add-on that they threw in there for inscrutable reasons.)

This sounds about right. I run battlemaster, superstar, sage, and while my battlemaster has a metal slime axe and can drop a shitload of damage, if I'd made him an armamentalist/pirate it'd have been far better. My sage is decent with a Gringham whip (which I should give to my superstar in place of his metal slime bow) but an Arma would be more useful for sure, especially with magic barrier being the only real defense vs all these magic heavy fights. I still have to sit down and farm that staff from the zoma event because that whip is the best caster weapon I've seen so far. :sigh:

Battlemaster needs help. Anger isn't actually worth using and the charge crash skill is completely unreliable. Sure I get that 3-4 battle masters could probably delay a long cast ability if it always worked, but that also means using 3-4 battlemasters...
