For better or worse, I work by myself for myself, so I can self-isolate and still work! Unfortunately the stock market being down 20% doesn't bode well for having much work to do.

I have spent the last five years very happily living alone and the last two working alone and I feel like all my training is finally paying off. I’ve always found myself pretty good company, but I know not everyone is like that. If they tell me I can’t go outside to work in the yard or go to work I just might go crazy.

Time will tell and I may well be entirely wrong about this, but I think the US response and restrictions are going to be increasingly local and regional. Downtown Atlanta and rural Georgia are very different places in terms of how rapidly and how far this is likely to spread, and I think mitigating the economic damage (aside from shooting the $2tn money railway gun that is looking more and more certain at the problem)wherever possible is going to start becoming a bit more of a topic of discussion. So far we have been fighting this thing with a very broad, blunt instrument (and I think that has been the right approach) but hopefully in the coming weeks as we know more and more (and have more and more testing available), that will shift to a more targeted approach. I think it has been especially difficult for a generation that has gotten so used to clicking a thing and having it at most 2 days later to remember that things take time.

I ran away to the hinterlands for a few days and found a very well stocked grocery store and a lot of very green leaves and it helped my brain a lot. The trees and the flower were pretty and the bees and snakes and bugs have not learned about social distancing yet.

You could probably spritz the masks pretty good with some denatured alchohol or something and let them dry? Might test it on a piece of cloth or something first to find out if it still stinks after it's dry. I also found an (opened) box of 11 n95s at the shop because I breathe sawdust professionally. I distributed them among my parents/grandmother because my Dr. brother had said hospitals and stuff couldn't take them if they were opened. My big respirator is honestly more comfortable, the n95s make my face sweat twice as much and make me feel like I can't breathe, where the acid gas/organic vapor approved rubber respirator is relatively comfortable (but I think i'd get some looks if i started wearing it out in public) and theoretically a lot easier to clean too.

The price of WTI crude going negative has me majorly  I get the how and the why and the fact that it will be different tomorrow, but I guess it’s apparently now our patriotic duty to take random drives where we don’t get out of our cars or go anywhere useful but do burn a lot of gas? I'm mostly happily a hermit by choice and disposition, but I have picked up the phone and called more people during all this than usual, and they've all been glad to have someone to talk to, and vice versa. It's not the same as real face to face connection, but I guess it will have to do and it has helped me alot to talk with friends and family even if I can't see them. I've been worried alot about the midterm. I have a vague idea what next week is going to look like. In 2-3 years there will be a new normal-maybe because we have a vaccine and things go back to more or less how they were 3 months ago, maybe because the virus is just endemic and we we deal with it like the flu. But what the heck does September look like? Are we still going to be doing this then? What does the economy look like in January? The stock market doesn't seem to care that there is a huge pandemic and my work and livelihood relies on wealthy people spending lots of money on frivolous things-are they still gonna be doing that in October? Even tiny stuff like is my extended family going to come for thanksgiving like they always do is completely unknown and I've just stopped making plans for anything more than about a week out. There's just so much uncertainty even about my tiny little life and it's freakin stressin me out. That's not to even mention the actual real human suffering and loss of life and family and livelihood so many people are already dealing with.
