Yeah I work in this industry and this has been absolutely apocalyptic. Everything was cancelled by the start of March and the news was dribbled out from then on. A few things have rescheduled to October but everyone knows they aren’t happening.

My entire year was 60k+ people arena shows and large scale corporate. There is a danger that the corporate event market is dead permanently. The way companies look at sending people from 20+ countries to mingle in breakout rooms and watch PowerPoint is likely to change forever.

The events industry has a long tail and when people do want to start up again all the suppliers are going to be dead unless they’re SSE or PRG.

Likewise. I’m hoping that we’re small enough and have a focus on design skills and a background in other tech enough to adapt better than some of the bigger incumbents but it’s a loving scary time.

PRG were already in the shitter from buying VER and all the bad stuff that came with that, word is they were on the verge of bankruptcy anyways. Solotech are huge of course but this coming after they just put a huge outbound expenditure on buying all of SSE and co isn’t ideal either.

The most fun part is that if the big boys do go belly up, there’ll be tons of premium kit on the used market for peanuts - which will likely just push the already far too low prices down even further for the little scraps that are likely to be left.

Industry chat aside, people maybe don’t realise how many people are employed by the events world and the peripheries of hospitality, nor how many other industries rely on the fringes and access to adjacent markets. I can’t see the government doing any specialist stimulus though, footie is obviously way more important or just has better lobbying power.

I gotta admit, I would love to see this last till the end of the month at least but I just don't see it happening. I think that's the right move...

Again, having said that I did go for a walk with my GF for several hours yesterday around central London so I am part of the problem too, but I've not been out the house for days and needed a change. Got some spooky photos of touristy stuff all dead quiet.

Gotta check in with the gaining poo poo loads of weight goons too. I've not shaved my head or face for over a month, I look like a fat hobo.

Going for a walk is not “part of the problem” - it’s essential to not going utterly batshit crazy in your house.

If you’re concerned, then do the walk wearing a mask - homemade, if necessary - and gloves. It’ll make people stay the gently caress away at the very least.

Of course, so does forgetting to shower because what day is it again?

My housemates have fully given up and are just having people round to hang out. I spent all of yesterday locked in my room, furious with them and the situation. This is my house, they sublet, but I’m not the kind of monster to hang the threat of eviction over them even if it was legally possible right now. Stern words were had, but I’m very grateful that my company’s new premises is at the point where I can move my home office there.

Just me, I’m the founder, and it’s 10,000sqft to myself with a canal walk there and back, so I’m pretty confident the exposure risk is lower than sitting here with morons traipsing in and out of the house every day under bullshit excuses.

Has to be done, and I'll do it, but spare a thought for us goons who live on our own. Pisses me off that there are people who are ignoring the lockdown so they can hang around a friend's house, when I haven't seen my fiance for almost 2 months now.

Exactly why I’m trying to be understanding but there’s some boundaries that have been way overstepped.

I’m also a registered key worker as part of a charity relief effort for events workers, supplying equipment to hospices and a loving testing centre.

My girlfriend is also in Brazil and my parents in Italy, so I have no idea when I get to see my nearest and dearest again. It’s the selfishness that gets me.

I hope you get some face to face contact soon pal. A brief doorstep to end of pathway chat for a timed 15 minutes won’t hurt if you can see a friend briefly on a short walk. There’s doing what is necessary for your mental health and taking the raw piss like my housemates. Don’t feel guilty about doing the former.

Me three! Never baked anything before, so setting myself a semi-reasonable challenge to do something simple but delicious. Three 8” pans ordered.

Expect my “Nailed It!” soon - I don’t have PMs or forums discord, so if someone would please be so kind as to hook me up on the latter it would be appreciated.

I know there are some freelance UK goons here so just wanted to let you guys know that banks started "Bounce Back Loans" (gubmint backed, 12 months interest free, no penalties if you want to pay it back , up to 6 years repayment) if you are not eligible for director furlough pay or small business grants it's worth checking out.

Up to 50k depending on your last year revenue on relatively reasonable terms (for private banking, that is). I don't need it atm but good to know it's there since I have completed two projects and only one low-ish paying regular contract left.

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/small-businesses-boosted-by-bounce-back-loans

All the banks online portals are crashed since yesterday morning and it’s not applicable for any accounts that have multiple signatories as yet. I would plan to apply sooner rather than later even if you feel it isn’t necessary right now, as the payments won’t come super quick if the other stuff is anything to go by.

The 12 month interest free also seems to not be enforced. Rates offered to us are low, but not zero.

I don't understand what 'actively encouraging people to go to work' means?

They never encouraged people to not work, only stuff like retail was ordered shut. Everyone else just closed because there was no business.

Word is they expected far fewer companies to furlough their staff and not in anywhere near the numbers that ended up happening. So this is a “correction”.

Actually Yorkshire Tea is only great if you have relatively soft water. If you live somewhere with hard water, like central Manchester, then Lancashire Tea is better.

I used to live with a guy who only drank tea. No water. Tea and beer. We’d go through one of those jumbo 2000 bag packs from Costco every month. I’m very glad I never saw the colour of his urine. He also co-wrote Simply Red’s “Holding Back The Years” but got gently caress all royalties. Maybe he chugged sweet milky tea 24/7 to counter his rampant bitterness at that injustice.

Most definitely isn’t. This is my industry. Losing Glastonbury is also a huge blow to many other sectors, it’s all fun sniping at it out of envy or misunderstandings but the impact to a huge swaths of our country’s escapism outlets will be felt for many years to come.

That little bit more anger at work, the little bit more disconnected feeling from your personal projects.

Everyone’s got a vice of some kind, and that’s important to have to release the pressure of daily bullshit. Don’t hate on others just because their preference doesn’t vibe with yours, or we all end up as curtain twitching closet Tories.
