Should I get this game if I enjoyed P5 but didn't feel it really needed expanding upon?

I'm on hard, and like most SMT games I've played it seems either you get the turns to drop all the opponents before they can go or you just explode. Though that might also be my attempts to finish every palace in one day and utter refusal to not fight everything I see. And I'm still underleveled for the bosses.

I don't know if Royal made social stats easier to level up or if I'm just spending my time better but I don't remember maxing my social stats in August in the original game.

All the extra fusion alarm poo poo is great. I ended up with a suzaku that had just all the health and SP regen passives so I'd just ambush something weak and keep guarding with joker and he'd end up with full health and SP in no time.

I'm still convinced that Morgana was female earlier in development before someone decided that either A) male mascots sold better or B) the best part of Teddie was his flirting and wanted to repeat that.

While I still like Makoto, I think it could have been interesting if she would have been allowed to both own and channel her rage in productive ways instead of once she'd acknowledged it was there mostly ignoring it. Makoto's character could have been so much better. Makoto in battle and the metaverse is a reference-driven HERO OF JUSTICE and is great, but Makoto in her social link and most of the cutscenes is just 'student council president'. I get that we needed some sort of straight man after the first four idiots, but she gets played too straight too often.

Yosuke is weird because half the time the game expects you to laugh at him and the other half the time the game expects you to laugh with him without changing his personality in any way. But yes he is at least better than Teddie.

Plus, Joker's an outcast in his school. No one there really likes him apart from his Phantom Thief friends, and most of those are because of Phantom Thief stuff. If the Metaverse hadn't happened and he just lived out his year there, I wouldn't be surprised if his social circle consisted entirely of Ryuji.

I saw a post that pointed out that every time the Phantom Thieves tried to do something fun as a group it tends to end in disaster. See also: the buffet after Kamoshida's palace being interrupted by 'rotten adults' and the summer festival getting rained out;. So I guess that's just another part of that?
