Oh, trust me there are plenty of Western bigots who get way into just how gross and icky sex between men, and occasionally women, is. Part of mainstream acceptance of gays was that kind of discourse got marginalized among homophobes, but it used to be common enough. There's one particularly infamous comic that got passed around the internet with Chick tracts and the like which was basically one man's meltdown over sexual fetishes. Fun to remember that in the age of president

BrigadierSensible posted:So, let's assume that one is a gay trans man, but cannot afford the expensive medical process to transition. If you listen to this bloke, all you have to do is gently caress a lot of other men, and their essence, energy and life force, until you become just like those men. I am understanding him right yes? Generally greater repression in sexual expression including amongst heterosexual couples, sexual education more woeful than even ours (either nonexistent, religiously focused, underfunded, or badly informed), a lack of societal awareness regarding sexual subcultures and kink, and due to how often homosexuality is criminalized and ostracized to a much greater degree than even here, they have no need to blunt their rhetoric in order to avoid public outcry or resistance to outrageous statements. Fundamentalism is obvious. Homophobes in the US do probably have many of the same thoughts, but it's less socially acceptable to state those bluntly, instead they'll have incredibly roundabout tactics like tacitly accusing gay men of being more likely to be pedophiles or some other horseshit. It's harder to say the more frank and absurd stuff when LGBTQ people are far more out in the open here and as such people can obviously observe them as being totally normal human beings that cover a wide gamut of personalities. There are also potential social consequences such as losing your job for saying outright bizarre and bigoted statements. Not even three decades ago it was common to see gay men constantly portrayed as being sexual predators or perpetually lounging around shady, drug ridden BDSM clubs in film, not even getting started on AIDS which homophobes used to paint them as disease ridden which is a massive, incredibly challenging issue in many African nations and regions right now, especially in more rural and poverty stricken areas, making discrimination easier for people who need a convenient scapegoat. This is only scratching the surface though as a lot of regional religions (of which there are countless) have their own strictures and rules regarding sexuality and like a lot of oldschool Catholicism or Mormon poo poo it can extend to specific sex acts or practices so they'll incorporate those into their screeds. Then you have to factor in that a lot of areas are heavily influenced by Abrahamic religions due to colonization, but a lot of the social and spiritual attitudes of religious practices and traditions from before Christian or Islamic conversion will meld together with that and create hyperspecific expressions of sexual attitudes and taboos. Some cultures are somewhat open to transgender people (but often only in culturally specific incarnations which often come with their own difficulties) and various sexualities and gender expressions outside of the binary. When LGBTQ people are so incredibly marginalized it's easier to turn them into weird demons doing crazy sex stuff and say so publicly since there are no voices to speak up against it, but it's not necessarily a 1:1 analogue to historical oppression here, in fact it's tremendously different as a rule. Most of the easy comparisons are from areas with high Muslim or Christian populations, for obvious reasons. There is a lot of depressingly varied aspects of the myriad kinds of sexual repression and oppression in many regions in Africa but also a lot of cool and sometimes more open contrasts - depending on where you're looking at. I'd recommend picking up some easy to get into books like Hungochani or African Sexualities: A Reader if you want to know more.
