Don’t get me wrong, I tip well because I know servers get paid poo poo. But right now seems like a really bad time to remind everybody just how little you’re paying your staff to contract COVID-19.

Our house was burglarized while we were out for the day and I called the cops and 2 showed up. One a regular cop and the other dude was the fingerprint guy. The regular cop was like “yeah this sucks when it happens” and recommended a stronger lock for the door. The fingerprint guy was like “this will take like two hours and we often don’t get a good match still want me to do it?” And I said “yes please check for prints” and he repeated the argument twice more cuz maybe it was quitting time? Anyway we got assigned a detective who said “robbers usually just pawn the dvds and jewelry at the nearest store I’ll go check” and he found about 70% of what was stolen thanks for reading my cop story

Thirding on the experience and the aftermath. I was washing dishes after letting a cat out and a couple folks let themselves in my front door, grabbed my wife’s purse and my PS4, and then drove off with both our cars. We got my car back that day thanks to the in-car GPS, and my wife’s back a week later thanks to ... I guess the cops wanting impound money?

Anyway I had to buy a new PS4, my insurance went up, I make sure to lock the door after I let the cat out, and the cops didn’t need any loving guns for that. Also they never dusted for prints. But I don’t really care because prison wouldn’t fix anything, I just want the folks to pay for my deductible and PS4.

ACAB.

It's fun to be reminded that for a lot of people, cops being the first call for literally everything, including stuff well outside their purview to deal with, isn't a bad thing that contributes to unnecessary harm and death. What the gently caress is a cop going to do about a black bear other than shoot it? They aren't animal control.

It’s worth considering that for some amount of those people, they’re not necessarily calling the cops - especially if it’s something outside the obvious purview of what police should handle. It’s just that 911 will only really dispatch the cops.

It makes a great come back to “Well who will you call if [absurd situation happens]?” in regards to defunding the police. The answer is still 911, just that they now can dispatch somebody with the skills to actually handle the situation - like animal control or mental health specialists.

I bet someone $30 months ago that Turnip wouldn't suspend elections since he didn't have the stones to do emergency powers when the Roni started. He called me out on my page today. They still aren't cancelled, sure, but I'll probably be out $30 in November.

Anyway, that's it. I'm the IOSM.

This wouldn’t be the first time Trump has said something big and scary and inflammatory then backed off from it a week later.

Also, it’s a bet - be pedantic as gently caress. If they happen, at all, before 2024, you get that $30 back!

Yea, retail and restaurant workers aren't paid enough to deal with the verbal abuse from folks over masks, much less the more physically violent types.

Honestly, we should just shame the antimask people as publicly and loudly as possible to help out our brethren who work in those hellholes.

Hey, Louisville Kroger employee here.

So first, that guy is a store manager. He is paid enough to deal with that, it is his job to deal with that, and he is explicitly the only person in the store allowed to deal with that.

But second, unlike other stores that have followed through on their mask policies, Kroger absolutely has not. When KY implemented a mask mandate, Kroger’s position was “ask nicely then let them shop.” And now that it is ‘Kroger Policy’ that you have to wear a mask inside the store? Same thing.

Tl;dr: If you want to shop for your groceries somewhere that enforces masks and social distancing, stay far away from any Kroger or Kroger-owned store.

Where I am, the only place that truly enforces is the Costco 60 miles away. No employee want to deal with the absolutely insane backlash. As someone pointed out, a person was shot over this. I hate it, but I understand the apathy. I will grant, as the store manager, he is the one dude paid to deal with poo poo. I thought he was just one of the normal managers, some of whom get paid like poo poo, so sorry about that.

Also, Kroger is just a poo poo company anyway. Expecting competency (no offense) is something I gave up on there decades ago.

I love that Costco enforces it, and Target enforces it here as well. Can’t speak for any other place as I try to limit my already over-exposed self as much as possible.

And no offense taken! There was a lot of underlying frustration getting vented in my post, and I just wanted to make sure everybody was on the same page about management v labor. They will call the police in a heartbeat if they think somebody’s going to walkout with a $100 grocery order, but a somebody who could be infected with a pandemic-causing virus not taking basic precautions is a hands-off matter.

Anyway, have an idiot tax:

It looks as though it would fold in half (or close enough to) at any given link so you could access the tool.

Still looks incredibly unwieldy and dumb.
