And If it makes anyone feel better, I think actual findom is pretty rare. I believe it was an episode the F-Plus podcast (think Weekend Web) that found a model forum where some women were talking shop. A funny aside was people trying to break into findom complaining about how hard it was and how few clients there were. It's apparently all about snagging one of the few rare whales floating around. Average people who don't have spare money to throw at pretend blackmail don't last long enough to be worth the effort.

Did Fox News all of a sudden praise Sweden? Did someone mass tweet a Swedish link?

Adding on, last Sunday 60 minutes did a little special on Sweden that was obnoxiously glowing "Only 2,000 deaths!" and "The people are really loving this freedom." So, that probably raised its profile among the not terminally online. No idea if anyone else boosted it.

Buzzfeed did an okay job covering it even if there aren't too many details, the book stuff starts halfway down.

https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/ryanhatesthis/its-looking-extremely-likely-that-qanon-is-probably-a

TLDR: Some Italians leftists and anarchists put out a book called Q in 1999 that involved a shadowy figure that sends communications from a secret powerful group and signs them Q. They noted that it was only really popular in small activist circles in the US so they think some leftist was pranking 4chan.

I'm not sure I buy it since there are other possibilities that are just as likely and dumb. I think a random QAnon commenting right-wing streamer got caught accidentally using the tripcode at one point, even if they might have been able to explain it away, and someone else came forward and said it was just supposed to be a little morale booster for Trump people that got out hand. But Q has obviously changed a few times just judging by the writing style, so who even knows now.

I guess Early's getting taken out to the Sheriff's cloning fields at the start of the season.

So, it's weird to me because from what I'd read in the past, he played the Unknown Hinson character for a while before the show. It was basically just Early in a different form, a violent, creepy, misogynist Southern Pride idiot. He did local access shows and did song parodies that I actually thought were kind of catchy and funny, even if at least one didn't age great. They were over the top stupid and misogynistic to poke fun at a really dumb subset of country music and that was supposed to be the joke...or so I thought.

I'm wondering if it was another case of using irony as an outlet for the real thing, or some "We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be" poo poo.

Yeah, I guess I vaguely get the Holocaust Denial class push as a weird-rear end anti-Israel troll, but it's so stupid beyond that. There are barely any actual claims that aren't just raw anti-semitism/Jewish "Globalist" conspiracy stuff and it's not weird for people to not want to platform raw hate. I'm aware of 2 not anti-semitic theories. The people pushing both were serious, which meant that once they got to actually do research on it they immediately dropped their denialism. If we're 100% good faith for not much of a reason, you can maybe pick at very specific edges of the stats and stories but there's not really a reason to bother with it and there's certainly nothing to talk about for more than a lecture or two. It's also no worse than any other part of history.

Fun fact, our Civil War death tolls are probably off by a somewhat considerable amount because a bunch of officers thought it was really cool for their towns/units to sacrifice the most so they were really quick to write off soldiers as dead when they were just wounded or missing.

I guess you could just push for more coverage of BDS or better classes (my college classes that involved Israeli politics didn't really shy away from tough topics, but I'm sure some suck), but that wouldn't get you points and RTs for being edgy I guess.

From the last time it came up, the really big thing is that Autism Speaks used to be a group that primarily supported the families of severely autistic people. Like, people who just can't function in the world. And there were a few issues (something other than the shock harnesses, that's a new one for me) with their time doing that. But then at some point they sort of overwhelmed the other groups and became the most well-known organization when they really weren't suited for the main task of just making people with Autism's lives easier.

It really shouldn't surprise me anymore, but man celebrities are always so sure that they're the ones who are really going to nail *insert hot button issue.*

WWI though. Jesus, the brainworms to make that seem like a cool war to fight in. It's kings fighting kings in horrific trench warfare. I did a whole course once on Winston Churchill's writings. He did an early biography that was full of basically pulp adventure-style writing about how badass his early military adventures were, and even he stopped to note how much war sucked now and that WWI was a hellscape that he didn't really know how to square.

Oh there's definitely BDSM people who like to start whining about how they're an oppressed minority just like gay people the moment someone isn't cool with open displays of kink. It's a minority within the community, and they don't get a lot of traction, but they do exist. Honestly you'll get that with any group; the people who see social justice rhetoric only as it applies to what they want to do and say, and have no concept of trying to make a society that works for everyone.

A long time ago there was a good GBS thread looking through the anecdotes in a study concerning BDSM discrimination. There was a fairly even mix running from people getting harassed or fired because someone at work found their BDSM related profile or heard rumors, people who were discrimated against because they apparently had to tell everyone in their life about it and were shocked that some people reacted poorly, and then the top-tier where a couple were shocked that CPS got involved after they tried to find a babysitter for their kids on a fetish site, because they might as well get someone who would also be a babysitter-themed partner in their new threesome.

The funny thing is that, if the leaks are right, it's literally just them cutting out a few DAT rear end! shots of Miranda and cleaning up a few accidental upskirt angles if you were playing as female Shepherd. The sex scenes, presumably still in all their embarrassing glory, are still in there. The main rear end shot being referenced is a laughably stupid angle that undercuts the one emotional scene with her. But gamers are going to be gamers and convince themselves that it's censorship.

True crime people are truly broken

One of the really disgusting trends on true crime podcasts is Simplisafe buying ads to sell alarms to people while they're all freaked out about serial killers. It sucks, although I kind of have to hand it to them for thinking of it.

Although, to be honest, it's weird to see someone go that far with it and still be into true crime stuff. The logic is usually that you learn about serial killers as some broken, lizard brain defense to prepare yourself or cope with the chaos of heinous crimes. Being that freaked out and still reading more is a hell of a thing.

Also the true crime nerd answer is that Keyes's (and to a lesser extent the Golden State Killer's) main thing was that he did an obscene amount of prep, so none of that would really matter anyway.

That's an amazing tweet, because in Winston Churchill's book about his early life there's a striking moment where he takes a break from talking about how much fun it was loving around in Britain's military expeditions before WWI to stop and clarify that he didn't mean to sound glib about war in general because even he agreed that WWI was a clear moment where war became an existential nightmare and meat grinder for everyone in every battle.

The IOSM's final argument is "humanity only survived because of Vault-Tec's vaults!", but even in the most sycophantic view is that even true? Sure, every Fallout game you play as a vault-dweller, but the vast majority of people you encounter are non-vault-dwellers right? I'm not steeped in Fallout lore, but my impression is most of the survivors at the time of the games are descendants of people that avoided the blasts on the surface.

The IOSM also ignores the fact that only like 2 of the 100+ vaults were designed to ever open, and every other case of vault-dwellers resurfacing is another example of capitalism failing.

On top of that, unless I'm screwing up my memories of the original lore, the big background joke is that humanity had cracked the concept of fusion power, and that a more global/less capitalist dick-swinging mindset and a little belt-tightening for a few years would have let everybody live in a Star Trek utopia once fusion power scaled up to overcome the resource crunch.

edit: ^Yeah, cargo cult stock broker is a big part of the fun too.

Or for a quicker point it's literally just trading cards except dumber and nerdier.

A shadowless 1st Edition Charizard isn't any better than a normal one, except everyone knows its rarer. So if you own one and show it off you feel warm and fuzzy and cool. Same thing with Ken Griffy Jr. rookie cards (if you want a fun read, look up the collapse of the baseball card bubble). Same thing as wearing a $100 hat in TF2. Same thing with owning some rare NFT of a weird cat that there are only 5 of in the world. It's just that once it crossed with crypto the values went to absurd levels.

I had heard the honest initial rush in interest in NFTs was from bored trading cards nerds looking for a way to take the hobby online, since Covid meant that they couldn't go to game stores or conventions. Then, I thought, the tulip mania came after a totally honest and real giant sale between two partners in the same company that every bored news site reported breathlessly.
