What about the nofap thing, is that another right wing plant?

It started as a 4chan thing without a doubt (the whole "cloversexual" thing is a clear 4chan reference), but it very well may have pulled in people who weren't in on it. Still, it never really picked up any steam anywhere so I think we can safely say it was just a plant

I wonder if it's connected at all with the baffling anti-"spoiler" culture the internet has developed over the past few years where every single minute detail about a show/movie/game will just absolutely ruin a viewing experience and must be placed in tags. I played through my flatmates copy of Persona 5 recently, and he had the big fancy steel box version but he insisted, no matter what that I shouldn't look at the back of the box because there are big spoilers on it. I played through the game and it has a couple of betrayals by some major characters so I was like oh, it must have those characters looking real evil and sinister on the back or something. Credits roll, I look at the back, it's just a picture of your party members looking cool. Like, what about this was supposed to be a spoiler? That these characters exist, and join your crew at some point?

It's especially bad when discussing any sort of Disney/Marvel property where you cannot read a sentence about whatever crap they're talking about without clicking through spoiler tags half a dozen times.

It's pretty easy to find the line for what to spoil and what not to spoil, usually. Just think about moments and reveals that you thought were really cool and just don't mention them

Also spoilers might make people actually enjoy stories more

I know I've definitely checked out certain games and shows because I knew the gist of the plot and also some particularly cool stuff that happens and I wanted to see how the story got there. There are definitely some narratives that I'm grateful I went into totally blind, because the twist was so well done and the implication of it had value in and of itself, but that's really the exception

Each Dune book is a little worse than the previous one but that's mostly because the plot becomes way too insanely convoluted to keep track of. I read all of them but I can barely remember anything of what happened after God Emperor. The first two are totally fine as a standalone story but God Emperor does have some pretty drat cool poo poo in it

Also yeah Leto II is the most authoritarian character in perhaps all of fiction ever but the politics of Dune don't really apply to our own world. Leto II creates his regime specifically because he knows it'll be destroyed and that it's a necessary step in a series of events to prevent the extinction of humanity, something he knows because he has perfect understanding of all possible futures

I do agree that the long, overly precise language of stuff like this is really offputting. But plenty of short, punchy, accessible slogans that drop nuance for impact get devoured by the conservative propaganda machine all the same anyway. A lot of the people that need to be convinced the most are those actively resisting it, so entrenched in their dogma that no combination of words will be the ones to bypass their defenses and convince them.

The right wing media circuit will always attack. If the message is too precise and long, the media will attack it for being elitist and out of touch. If the message is short and punchy, the media will attack it by deliberately misinterpreting it. There's no point in trying to counter their strategy. It's better to just use simpler messages that are accessible and can be discussed easily than overly complicated ones that laypeople won't even bother trying to understand. It's all a numbers game. Most of them can't be convinced but I'd rather use a strategy with a 5% chance than a 0% chance
