Mooey Cow posted:I think the most hosed up thing about Harry Potter is, like, what the hell is a spell? Are they discovered, like cheat codes of the universe, or are people inventing them? If they're invented why aren't they ever making any new ones? Why don't Dumbledorf just make a Teleportus-Voldemortus-to-the-moonus spell? Didn't Snape invent a "cut a motherfucker" spell when he was a kid?

TheAardvark posted:has any of the extraneous bullshit in harry potter ever covered how people discover or create new spells? werent the weasley twins doing it at some point? Snape invented his "cut a motherfuckers" spell in wizard high school but I don't think the books talk about that process.

I have read precisely one (1) Harry Potter fanfic and it was a goddamn crazy ride that started off zany and light ("What if Gordon Ramsay taught at Hogwarts?") and veered sharply into "nobody gives a poo poo about the trio, here's what it was like for normal people in the Wizarding World under the heel of Wizard Nazis" and holy poo poo did it get dark.

Incidentally "Puffs: The Musical" kicks rear end as a comic deconstruction of the series and is on Amazon Prime for not too much.

Mycroft Holmes posted:Wondering if Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon would have disowned Dudley if he turned out to be a wizard too. The epilogue was terrible but it would have been slightly less so if we saw a grownup Dudley bringing his kid to Platform 9 3/4 for the first time with a sheepish look on his face.

Vim Fuego posted:Dumbledore was merely a somewhat above average wizard in most areas but was an absolute savant, a generational talent in "E-pluribus-unumancy." This is a school of divination that shows the user which out of a myriad of extremely unlikely scenarios will result in the desired outcome, even though all moves leading to it are counterintuitive and on the face of it offensively stupid.
