Congrats to the New York Mets!

Your ALCS MVP is Hall of Famer Rod Carew, who is hitting a cool .458 so far in the playoffs. The Mets also got big money from Matt Harvey, Todd Helton, and Hughie Jennings.

Congrats to the Nippon Ham Fighters! Your MVP is Nolan Arenado, who hit 2 dingers in the series. The Ham Fighters really leaned on tough pitching this series, getting fantastic efforts from Addie Joss, Zack Greinke, Stephen Strasburg, and Felix Hernandez.

I did a bit of a draft retrospective while we're waiting for the Series to start. I can do a "disappointment of the round" too if people don't think it'll be too mean-spirited.

Round 1 pick of the round: Barry Bonds, Minnesota Twins, 1/1

No surprise here. Barrold hit 0.352/0.483/0.719 for an OPS of 1.202 with 57 dingers and a staggering 10.2 WAR.

Round 2 pick of the round: Clayton Kershaw, Philadelphia Phillies, 2/2

Led all present-day pitchers with 7.3 WAR. He threw 226 innings of 3.19 ERA ball with a K/BB just over 5.

Round 3 pick of the round: Bob Gibson, New York Mets, 3/3

Gibson pitched 220.2 IP with a Brandon McCarthy-like 4.20 ERA. Only allowing 12 HR meant he was second in the league amongst starters with a 3.44 FIP.

Round 4 pick of the round: Hughie Jennings, New York Mets, 4/16

Hit 0.361/0.412/0.465 for an OPS of .877. Was hit by a frankly astonishing 39 pitches. Led the league in steals with 83.

Round 5 pick of the round: Pete Alexander, Wichita Jobbers, 5/14

245.1 IP and an ERA of 3.6 means he was second overall amongst pitchers with 7.8 WAR.

Round 6 pick of the round: Ed Walsh, Yomiuri Giants, 6/10

Put up 7.5 WAR in 227.2 innings despite a 5.3 ERA and a BABIP of .360. Could easily have led the league with slightly better luck.

Round 7 pick of the round: Andy Pettitte, Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs, 7/4

The surprising MVP for team 1997, Pettitte threw 224 innings with a sub-4 ERA and a WAR of 6.

Round 8 pick of the round: Old Hoss Radbourn, Montreal Expos, 8/8

Living up to his twitter account, Hoss led the league with 262 IP. Only giving up 12 homers helped him to a 6.4 WAR.

Round 9 pick of the round: Carl Hubbell, Ottawa Lynx, 9/8

In 234 innings pitched his 1.1 BB/9 was tied for 3rd in the league amongst starters.

Round 10 pick of the round: Chris Sale, Sioux Falls Canaries, 10/14

Threw 210.2 IP with a 4.53 ERA. Would have been even better had he not given up 32 homers.

Round 11 pick of the round: Gaylord Perry, Wichita Jobbers, 11/14

Clearly the spitball isn't banned in OOTP. 235.2 IP of 4.47 ERA pitching adds up to 4.1 WAR in our league.

Round 12 pick of the round: Christian Yelich, Ottawa Lynx, 12/11

Hit 0.306/0.356/0.549 and played a near-perfect RF. 4.1 WAR ties him with Alex Bregman for most amongst present-day hitters.

Round 13 pick of the round: Leon Day, Atlanta Braves, 13/12

224 IP with an ERA of 4.66, which is somehow good for a 116 ERA+.

Round 14 pick of the round: Whitey Ford, New York Giants, 14/4

Only went 15-14 for the Giants but amassed 5.5 WAR in 225.1 innings.

Round 15 pick of the round: Ken Williams, Atlanta Braves, 15/12

Hit 0.346/0.394/0.604 for an OPS of .998, good for 6th in the league and only 64 points below his actual 1923 OPS.

Round 16 pick of the round: Frankie Frisch, Ottawa Lynx, 16/11

His 0.795 OPS was only good for a 96 OPS+, but the Fordham Flash played great defense and stole 51 bases with an astonishing 94.4% SB rate.

Round 17 pick of the round: Shawn Green, Toronto Blue Jays, 17/13

Hit .283/.335/.530 for an .865 OPS. Hit only 3 fewer homers in an all-time league than he did in 1999 for the Jays.

Round 18 pick of the round: Burleigh Grimes, New York Giants, 18/4

The only player taken in round 18 with a WAR over 1. Went 3-18 in 173.2 IP mostly as a starter with an ERA of 7.77. Replacement-level pitching in our league must be truly nightmarish.

Round 19 pick of the round: Russ Ford, Montreal Expos, 19/11

Finished with a losing record of 13-14 but his 3.95 ERA was 11th in the league amongst starters.

Round 20 pick of the round: Bret Saberhagen, Philadelphia Phillies, 20/2

3.9 WAR is the highest of any player taken in the final 9 rounds. Went 13-11 with a 5.5 ERA in 199.2 IP.

Round 21 pick of the round: Adam Wainwright, Kansas City Monarchs, 21/16

Apparently OOTP just loves him for some reason. 210.1 IP and an ERA of 4.41 adds up to 3.1 WAR.

Round 22 pick of the round: Wally Schang, Atlanta Braves, 22/7

1.1 WAR makes him second amongst backup catchers, and means he outperformed quite a few first-choice ones as well. Tim Salmon also had 1.1 WAR but had over 3 times the PAs which is why I'm going with Schang.

Round 23 pick of the round: Bill Freehan, Minnesota Twins, 23/1

The leader amongst backup catchers with 1.2 WAR. Had an OPS of .897 over 136 PA. The first round to have negative value overall with -1.9 WAR. Mostly thanks to Joba.

Round 24 pick of the round: Mike Scott, Ottawa Lynx, 24/11

12th in the league for Ks with 232 in 222 IP, between Verlander and Johan. Mike Scott. Yeah, me neither.

Round 25 pick of the round: Placido Polanco, Philadelphia Phillies, 25/17

The penultimate player taken overall racked up 2.8 WAR in only 338 PA. You could easily fill up a team of first-ballot HoFers all with less than Polanco's 116 OPS+. Like this one:

C Johnny Bench (86)
1B Albert Pujols (82)
2B Jackie Robinson (89)
SS Alex Rodriguez (105)
3B Mike Schmidt (107)
LF Carl Yastrzemski (112)
CF Mike Trout (89)
RF Roberto Clemente (64)
DH Edgar Martinez (103)

I just don't know.

OK.

Round 1 disappointment of the round: Mark McGwire, New York Giants, 1/15

Hit 49 homers, but a 37.4% strikeout rate meant he was second in the league with 264 Ks. Finished with an OBP of just .294 and an OPS+ of 88.

Round 2 disappointment of the round: Ichiro Suzuki, Nippon Ham Fighters, 2/17

Hit .288/.310/.352 for an OPS of .663, only good for an OPS+ of 71. Honorable mention goes to Derek Jeter who had a not-terrible 93 OPS+ but was by far the worst SS in the league. His 19 errors and horrific -45 zone rating meant he finished with -1.5 WAR.

Round 3 disappointment of the round: Albert Pujols, Minnesota Twins, 3/1

An OPS+ of 82 combined with bad defense at first means Albert was the first non-Jeter pick to dip below replacement level, at -0.1 WAR.

Round 4 disappointment of the round: Justin Verlander, Houston Astros, 4/9

Verlander tied for 5th worst amongst all pitchers with -2 WAR despite striking out 12.5 per 9 innings. If you're wondering how that could happen, he led the league in homers allowed with an eye-watering 72 in 168.1 IP.

Round 5 disappointment of the round: David Ortiz, Houston Astros, 5/10

Another slugger whose strikeout numbers spelled trouble in an all-time league. A 30.6% K rate left him with an OPS+ of just 64 and -1.8 WAR.

Round 6 disappointment of the round: Pete Rose, New York Giants, 6/4

Pete must have been betting on himself to suck because he hit .274/.309/.386 for an OPS+ of 74 and played easily the worst 2B in the league.

Round 7 disappointment of the round: Mickey Cochrane, Yomiuri Giants, 7/9

Cochrane finished with 19 BB against 94 Ks and an OBP of .277. He was 3rd in the league in passed balls and only threw out 21.1% of stealers leaving him with a WAR of -0.8.

Round 8 disappointment of the round: Reggie Jackson, Ottawa Lynx, 8/11

Hit .220/.281/.397 for an OPS+ of 65 and -1.4 WAR. Honorable mention to Rafael Palmeiro who, using one of his worst career seasons as the baseline, finished with an OPS+ of 56 and -2.3 WAR as the worst hitter in the league.

Round 9 disappointment of the round: Mookie Betts, Montreal Expos, 9/11

His OPS of .589 in 241 PA meant that, despite playing a reasonable RF, he finished with -0.9 WAR.

Round 10 disappointment of the round: Boog Powell, Hanshin Tigers, 10/1

Even an MVP season means nothing in this league. Had a not-terrible 89 OPS+ but played an absolutely awful 1B on his way to -0.7 WAR.

Round 11 disappointment of the round: Jim Kaat, New York Giants, 11/6

Somehow finished with a positive record at 13-12 despite an ERA of 5.83. And that was him getting lucky, his FIP finished at 6.93 thanks to him giving up 68 dingers, good for fourth most in the league.

Round 12 disappointment of the round: Barry Larkin, Sioux Falls Canaries, 12/14

Played the second-worst defensive SS in the league but his OPS of .796 (somehow still below league average) meant he finished barely above replacement level with 0.1 WAR.

Round 13 disappointment of the round: Eddie Murray, New York Mets, 13/3

Racked up -1.1 WAR despite playing 85 of his 87 games at DH. Finished with just 16 extra-base hits and an OPS+ of 72.

Round 14 disappointment of the round: Gary Sheffield, Minnesota Twins, 14/18

Hit .228/.334/.410 for an OPS of .744 and an OPS+ of 86.

Round 15 disappointment of the round: Cole Hamels, New York Yankees, 15/6

Tied for second in the league with 70 home runs allowed and finished with -2 WAR and a staggering 2-19 record.

Round 16 disappointment of the round: Aaron Judge, New York Yankees, 16/13

Led the league in strikeouts. How many, you ask? 319. Three hundred and nineteen strikeouts. Being the third best defensive RF in the league was the only thing stopping his WAR from dropping much lower than the actual -1.

Round 17 disappointment of the round: Francisco Rodriguez, Wichita Jobbers, 17/14

Finished as the worst non-gimmick reliever in the league with -1.1 WAR in only 31 IP. Had a WHIP of 1.9 mostly due to his walk rate of 7.8 per 9 innings.

Round 18 disappointment of the round: Lance Berkman, Houston Astros, 18/9

Put up -1.4 WAR in 332 PA thanks to a combination of his .265 OBP and being the worst defensive LF in the league.

Round 19 disappointment of the round: Ray Brown, Wichita Jobbers, 19/14

Had an ERA of 5.97 in 176.1 IP which honestly isn't that terrible for our league, but nevertheless he finished with -1.3 WAR.

Round 20 disappointment of the round: Carlos Correa, Montreal Expos, 20/8

Put up -0.6 WAR in only 69 not-at-all-nice PA thanks to his atrocious OPS of .505, the worst in the league amongst players with at least 50 PA.

Round 21 disappointment of the round: Yu Darvish, Minnesota Twins, 21/1

Made 12 starts but was so terrible he got demoted to the bullpen where he wasn't any better. Finished with an ERA of 6.56 and -1.8 WAR. Honorable mention to Charles Nagy for being the literal worst player in the league. He made 32 starts and lost 26 of them, winning only 2. His HR rate of 4.6/9 IP was higher than his K rate of 4.5/9. Gave up 164 ER in 126.2 IP for an ERA of 11.65 and -4.5 WAR.

Round 22 disappointment of the round: Dan Plesac, New York Giants, 22/4

Finished with an ERA of 6.02 and -0.4 WAR in 49.1 IP.

Round 23 disappointment of the round: Cody Bellinger, Ottawa Lynx, 23/8

Hit .232/.311/.375 for an OPS+ of 69 and -0.5 WAR in 315 PA. Honorable mention to Joba Chamberlain who was the worst reliever in the league, racking up -2.8 WAR in 118 IP with an ERA of 8.16

Round 24 disappointment of the round: Madison Bumgarner, Kansas City Monarchs, 24/3

Gave up 27 homers in only 69.2 IP and finished with a FIP of 7.78 and -1.4 WAR.

Round 25 disappointment of the round: Shigeo Nagashima, Nippon Ham Fighters, 25/2

Hit .267/.298/.382 for an OPS+ of 74 mostly as a DH. Honorable mention to Sid Fernandez who was the last player chosen with good reason, finishing with an ERA of 9.32 in 158.1 IP, good for -3.3 WAR and the unenviable award of "worst player on Team Fat Guys".

I was warned by 2 goons that Charles Nagy would get lit up, and I just picked him because I ran out of names I was remembering, I was busy, and I was curious if he would be that bad.

I am proud to see Mr Nagy fail even more spectacularly than others predicted.

Yo gently caress Derek Jeter the only reason I picked him is because fat Shortstops don't exist and this is how he repays me. At least Sid Fernandez and Joba I didn't have high expectations for.

It all works out fine in the end because my best pitcher was Rich Garces, and if El Guapo can succeed in a league like this then team Fat Guys was a success.

Pudge essentially put this one out of reach in the 4th, not to mention the Mets seemingly stopped challenging his laser rocket arm. Vida Blue puts up the best performance of this year's playoffs so far.

Game 6 Box Score

In a tight ballgame, Joey Votto hits the deciding home run in the 7th, leaving Enatsu to close it out...barely. The Mets had Rickey on, and Raines hit a dinger. Tying run was at the plate...twice...but Jason Kendall struck out, and Cool Papa Bell flew out to end it.

Congratulations to your MVP, Ivan Pudge Rodriguez, who hit a whopping 381/409/762 in the series, leading the team in hits, HRs, and RBIs, while operating a machine gun from behind home plate against the most dangerous basestealing team of all time!
