I had a weird dream that Sony made a tv called the Sony TV that was a TV that had a built-in PS4 and they were hyping it up by talking about how it will play Tokyo Jungle

This sounded really familiar and apparently Sony did bring out a TV with a PS2 built in. Four years after the PS3 came out.

The combat isn't really anything like Dark Souls, other than its meatiness.

I seriously can't think of any major criticisms of GoW other than Niflheim and Alfheim being a bit shite. And they held back way too much on the god killing side of things.

I actually love open world games but when you mark all the interesting things on the map from the start then it's just a lot of scenery in between levels, not a game about exploration

If an open world game can keep me playing for 30 hours it's top tier. Hell 15 hours is pretty impressive.

Storywise there should probably be a variety of sovereign nations all competing and cooperating as it suits their interests and goals over time. The alliance is supposed to have different kingdoms under it, but lately they all just bow to Anduin as Super Mega King Forever. If someone sat down and really lored out the realistic likely political interests and divisions of the various peoples and groups within them on the planet and a bit beyond... they could make one of those Europa Euniversalis type games with all the intimidating maps and menus and charts.

I was really expecting the big ending of Battle of Azeroth be some sort of lasting peace or a merging of the factions - or the factions dividing into their own groups like you said. What would really change? You can go to Stormwind as a troll and group with some different looking races to usual. You can still have world PvP - just say you can be aligned to a die hard sect who refuses to let the war die, or say it's combat training or some poo poo.

The story of WoW has been such a boring repetitive slog for the last 10 years now. It needs a major structural change to jolt the writers to life.

Witcher 3 was absolutely too long and would have been way better if it wasn't open world

I'd make an exception for Witcher 3 because the crazy number of really good sidequests would be pretty difficult to do in a non-open world.

Luckily you can very easily ignore 90% of the open world stuff.

It's very easy if you just do normal quests hubs like RPGs have done forever

The open world makes the sidequests worse becuase you bave to trek through the boring open world to find those quessts

You very rarely have to trek through the world if you don't want to. There are fast travel points every ten feet.

I don't like the majority of open world games but Witcher 3 would definitely have lost something if it wasn't open world. It feels like a lived in world, which it just wouldn't if all of the quest NPCs were stood in a small town square together.

It's a shame because the first time you ever did it in rear end Creed was so cool.

If a game has to do it though I think Horizon's method of turning it into a puzzle is the best.

yeah like leveled loot with garbage swords and overleveled monsters that are otherwise identical to the lnes you beat before

Honestly, there was like nothing interesting in the witcher 3 world. Almost all of the good content in the game is in form of quests gotten from people.

Yes and the content of those quests took place on the open world map. If the game didn't have open world game design there would only be a handful of areas that quests could happen in, and they'd have to be far smaller in scope.

If a game has level scaling there's no reason for it to have a level system at all.

It kind of makes sense for W3 because Gerald has been doing this for years and there's no reason any enemy should be 50 levels above him at this point. So just do away with levels and if there absolutely needs to be progression just make the mutagen system better.

This isn't strictly true, imo at least. Leveling allows players to specialize into the parts of the game that they find more fun, even if the world is keeping pace with them in a way that means the numerical progression is just meaningless lizard brain rewards

You can specialise without number go up though. I just think there's something really hollow about levelling up when you know it's functionally meaningless (especially in the games that get actively harder as the levels scale up and reward staying at level 1). My lizard brain rejects it.

I think it was Destiny they promoted the poo poo out of to the extent where it just seemed like a PS4 game when it came out. Sony marketing is pretty smart. Can't say the same for MS.

MS just says 'XBOX exclusive*' when any game is announced. It usually turns out to mean there's an exclusive skin or it's coming to PS4 30 days later or something.
