Speaking of players we remember kinda, how about Nick van Exel: In addition to being named after popular spreadsheet software, he had a whole bunch of solid years with the Lakers and Denver, a couple nice years with Dallas (got a shout out from Jay-Z) before his career crashed and burned because of an elbow injury. Seems like he was pretty famous for a one year all-star? Good for him.

I never really knew as a kid if Van Exel was good or not but I liked him because he stood really far behind the line while shooting free throws (something I would imitate a lot in the hopes that maybe it'd make me better at free throws somehow) and he was my mom's 2nd favorite player behind Patrick Ewing

As a kid I sent out bball cards to all my favorite PGs with a note saying why I liked their game(I love point guards ok) and Nick Van E was the only one to sign the card and he even wrote a nice note in return. So I like him a lot

I don't know if my parents still have it or if they tossed it but I went to an autograph signing of Van Exel, the only one I ever went to.

How come i always hear people talking about players and coaches families. You don't think they can be separated a couple months? That's not much time at all and plenty of jobs are like that in normal times. In fact i will volunteer to send my wife away for two months as an act of solidarity in these troubled times!
