And maybe old cars (if not rusty) survive crashes better, based on the "they don't make 'em like they used to" principle? Actually I guess crumpling is better, to absorb kinetic energy in a crash.

I wonder if any modern cars will last longer than 20 years, when the manufacturers stop making criitical model-specific circuit boards not many years after the car warranties expire, so as to force owners into buying new cars.

there’s going to be aftermarket bits to keep your 2020 car rolling in 2040

I am guessing that the cheap 3rd party fake ipad glued to every dash won’t get software updates to connect to your phone- and there will be new replacement dash bits you put in just with like sound systems etc.

I’m also worried that the safety anti collision radar sensors that are stuck in every plastic fender are going to get bumped when grandma bumps the curb at the grocery store and it’s going to randomly tap the brakes while she drives home- $4000 to fix. There’s going to be a cottage industry to delete all that stuff on these cars as they age to save money

I'm guessing that 80s and 90s cars will survive better than modern stuff right now. poo poo like limp mode and other safety stuff like that will just go bad, since those systems are only as good as their sensors. HVAC systems and stereos are doomed to sliding out of date and giving up the ghost, nobody having the knowledge or patience to fix an integrated unit in a 2018 Nissan Rogue.

I'm atypical in what I'll put up with in a daily driver, but right now I'm driving around in completely mechanical diesel manual transmission truck, getting about 25 miles to the gallon and secure in the knowledge that if anything does go wrong (lol it won't it's a Land Cruiser) it's all linkages, bolts and springs that make it all work. Plus the whole Toyota War/technicals thing kinda speaks for itself in reliability.

i know i know, but the foxbody is selling at a premium because it doesnt look totally horrible, its starting to get some kind of "collectors" premium for nice examples when mechanically its very very similar

the sn95 is newer too especially, less little things would be broken on it

This line of thinking is what makes everything worse. People should drive because they want to, not because they have to. Less pollution, less roads, less congestion on those roads, less inefficiency. Plus people would probably be more pleasant while driving.

there are only two cars that should exist in this world, a current model Prius and a 1982 Toyota SR5 pickup. That will fill 100% of all car needs

What about europe, Japan, and Korea, who all have lively car cultures AND robust public transit networks?

Car culture exists because it's fun as heck to go fast you goobers. Having to commute in a car is lame, cruising on the weekend or racing on a track or rallying down a narrow winding dirt road is very blessed

They're nice looking cars, if you get one make sure you get a package that has decent size tires -- the default trims have 245s which are, too skinny for the power. Get a package that has at least 275s

Heres a good vid that demonstrates the issue --
