You will never be safe, but eh at least I'm not on a motorcycle Also a defective airbag won't explode and kill you. And maybe old cars (if not rusty) survive crashes better, based on the "they don't make 'em like they used to" principle? Actually I guess crumpling is better, to absorb kinetic energy in a crash. I wonder if any modern cars will last longer than 20 years, when the manufacturers stop making criitical model-specific circuit boards not many years after the car warranties expire, so as to force owners into buying new cars. There’s going to be a cottage industry to delete all that stuff on these cars as they age to save money

HVAC systems and stereos are doomed to sliding out of date and giving up the ghost, nobody having the knowledge or patience to fix an integrated unit in a 2018 Nissan Rogue. I'm atypical in what I'll put up with in a daily driver, but right now I'm driving around in completely mechanical diesel manual transmission truck, getting about 25 miles to the gallon and secure in the knowledge that if anything does go wrong (lol it won't it's a Land Cruiser) it's all linkages, bolts and springs that make it all work. Plus the whole Toyota War/technicals thing kinda speaks for itself in reliability.

FCKGW posted:cars are appliances and "car culture" is awful This line of thinking is what makes everything worse. People should drive because they want to, not because they have to. Less pollution, less roads, less congestion on those roads, less inefficiency. Plus people would probably be more pleasant while driving.

a primate posted:“Car culture” exists because the people who planned our towns and cities were terminally brain dead no there are only two cars that should exist in this world, a current model Prius and a 1982 Toyota SR5 pickup. That will fill 100% of all car needs

Car culture exists because it's fun as heck to go fast you goobers. Having to commute in a car is lame, cruising on the weekend or racing on a track or rallying down a narrow winding dirt road is very blessed

Dear Watson posted:I want to get a 3 year old challenger. How big of a mistake is that? They're nice looking cars, if you get one make sure you get a package that has decent size tires -- the default trims have 245s which are, too skinny for the power. Get a package that has at least 275s Heres a good vid that demonstrates the issue -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBHmrO8hBNU
