Imo The Zekenator should have been the protag. Zeke and Panoria are the dorks who deserve the spotlight the most.

Zeke is a Final Fantasy protagonist dropped into Xenoblade, to fight the antagonists who are Final Fantasy antagonists. But there's also already a protagonist so he can take it easy. It works pretty well.

I was thinking, man it would be cool to be able to play Xenogears again on the switch. But it seems like the only place it's available is on PS4 as an emulated title.

I thought it was a squaresoft game, is it licenced from sony or something?

I could emulate it on pc because I bought an imported copy years ago but it would be much nicer playing it on switch. I wonder if it's actually worth any money now.

It's not on PS4, no PS1 games are. Your choices for playing it legally are PS3, PSP and PSVita.

Oh, shows what I know lol. I can't believe there are no PS1 games on the PS4

I guess if I want to play it again I just have to rip my own discs, I do have a PS1 and a PS2 in storage but I don't have a TV that would work with either

Since I’m only maxing Shulk’s Arts, I dropped his level to 80 (with two AP Up V gems) and left the others at 99 and he is getting like 10x as much AP as them lol this feels like cheating but actually it’s extremely good and will save me a ton of time.

I feel like expert mode is kinda mandatory, you can outlevel the area you're in real fast if you're destroying sidequests. I also realized I can powergrind affinity by de-leveling my group and throwing myself at a unique enemy and revive/encourage forever until the party wipes. The sooner I get everyone to heart-level with Sharla, the sooner I can bench her forever.

<click> <click> What is it with this dancing?! Bouncing around like fools... I would have thought my own kind at least would understand the seriousness of our Adventurer's Guild!

It's even easier against a certain enemy that puts you to sleep as a spike effect. Put debuff resist on your leader and let your party members doze themselves off. It's a bit high level in a random island on Eryth Sea, but approachable by the time you'd care about maxing affinity with everyone.

If I equip multiple instances of Shulk’s skill that increases the chance of a Chain Link, does it stack? Like if I equip it on Melia and Dunban.

I’m prepping for the super bosses, now that Shulk’s arts are maxed. I did a bunch of chain attacks to get a feel for it and I think I understand better how they work. I think I’m ready...?

I beat all the super bosses but didn’t get the achievement for beating an enemy 10 levels higher than you. I dunno what that’s all about!

I’m thinking about playing my copy of Xenoblade Chronicles X on my PC via emulation instead of my Wii-U, because I want sharper graphics and to be able to read the text in the screen. How does the game play without the Wiii-U gamepad? I really wish I could use my Wii-U game lad with my computer, I have Bluetooth, but alas.

according to the wiki you only get the achievement if the final blow is landed by the party leader or during a chain attack. so I'm guessing Reyn stole your kill

It plays very well since you never have to be using both screens at the same time (gamepad screen goes blank when you're in combat). I just have CEMU have each screen as a separate window (gamepad on second monitor but you could easily alt-tab between them because again, you never need both at the same time). CEMU also comes with some graphical packs (weird name?) that help to alleviate some of the more painful grinding in XBX so it is definitely a good way to play it.

My party leader is Melia so she definitely didn’t do that. That’s a really dumb requirement to get the achievement. I’m done with the game anyhow maybe some day I’ll do a NG+ but there’s not really any point since there’s nothing new in it so I probably won’t.

The ones in Eryth Sea? I used Dunban/Reyn/Riki. Playing as Riki, sleep them asap (give Riki sleep-resist gems and take Dunban & Reyn's circular AoE moves off their action bar) and then focus them down 1 by 1.

Thanks Tyler! I managed to beat them after a few tries this way. I guess I should get more comfortable with changing up my party members going forward.

Horace Kinch

Playing as the other members is fun, and mandatory if you want Melia in your group (seriously do not let the AI control her, it has no idea what it's doing). I pretty much only use Shulk vs Mechon at this point. Reyn in particular can commit some serious warcrimes, and can drat near oneshot most mobs with Berserker+Magnum Charge+Sword Drive.

Another important thing I learned just now is the immediate art manuals I've been waiting to get via drops are actually just sold by shopkeepers. That...that would have helped a lot.

Intermediate arts manuals are sold by shops starting at the very beginning of the game. The advanced ones are the ones dropped by high-level enemies. They’re pretty important, yeah!

I don’t think I even used Shulk that much in the mechon-heavy areas in the game. Once you get weapons that can hit mechon there’s not much of a point.

Monado Enchant adds stupid amounts of anti-mechon damage on each physical hit, even if everyone has anti-mechon weapons equipped already. Shulk is by no means mandatory but he is the anti-mechon specialist.

I've been using Melia as a main for a while now so I can get her and Sharlas affinity up for a quest. Then I went back to Shulk and kinda forgot how to use him.

I got so used to being able to topple enemies on a whim that I died to a couple of the quest bosses the first time.

I've just got to Galahad fortress and the shop just before that has a bunch of Anti-Mechon weapons but they all have way lower damage than everyones current weapons. Is it worth buying them? Or should I just stick with Shulk and use enchant?

Horace Kinch

The (shop bought - you'll get drops that are very good that happen to be anti-mechon, including the best or second best in slot options for several characters eventually) anti mechon weapons are bad. Either use Shulk, or do an Ether Party w/ Melia Riki Dunban/Reyn (Dunban's anti-mechon weapon so he can tank is fine and maybe worth grabbing.)

Some of the best weapons in the game are Anti-mechon (Dunban’s Machina Blade 3 comes to mind) but you don’t get those until a little bit later. The area after Gallahad Fortress.

Shulk has way better skills than Enchant to use his talent gauge for, anyhow. Monado Cyclone is extremely good but I don’t think you get it until late in the game. Purge, Speed, Shield & Armor are all way more useful than Enchant, as well.

Got Xenoblade X running on CEMU in 2K Ultrawide at a firm 60 FPS and it looks and plays so so well! I stopped playing the game on my Wii-U because there was so much text in the UI and no way to adjust the font. I’ll probably buy a Switch next month just to get Chronicles Definitive and 2. I beat Chronicles on Wii like 8 or so years ago and it still remains one of the best games I’ve ever played. Probably best jrpg easily, though it’s a close call between that and Persona 4 Golden.

Edit: Speaking of Emulating these games, how does Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition stack up against super-hi-res Dolphin emulated Wii version and texture packs and such? I understand the DE has some cool extras and some awesome sidequest updates, but graphics and performance-wise, is the Switch at least 1080p (docked) and 60fps, or thereabouts?

Expert Mode (lets you manually control your party's levels) alone makes the Switch version worth it.

Yeah Expert Mode makes the game significantly better than previous versions. You should absolutely play XC:DE with expert mode. Not to mention the other QoL updates to quests and the UI and all that.
