Second off, no, seriously, why does X look like if Lupin III and Waluigi hosed and had a robot baby

I already loved that Megaman X design, but this description makes it even more beautiful.

It seems very in line with something a Brazilian would write. After the dictatorship our cultural paradigm shifted away from metaphors - which were the closest we had to an anti-censorship tool, towards being as literal and direct as possible, connecting everything to the government and public figures.

To make matters worse, before the Internet kinda threw off the status quo a bit, our cultural cornerstones were utterly dominated by a really tiny handful of people. Imagine if Elvis was not only still alive, but still the biggest sensation in pop culture, and forcefully kept that way by the media, along with, I dunno, maybe a dozen other names across decades. I have so many about this subject but I've written enough about it in the mestizone thread, I'll leave it be.

In any case, this comic is better understood under the light of pornochanchada. Due to a mix of heavy political censorship and the American movie industry being overwhelming, most movies made here were sex comedies, sometimes featuring famous TV stars naked as a means to attract a bigger audience. There's a certain irony in that these movies were allowed under a strict censorship policy, but they basically avoided as much as possible to contain any politically subversive material.

Cue the 90's, where older people like this comic's writer are still heavily influenced by pornochanchadas, but also finally get to talk about politics as much as they want to. Hence you get the cultural scenario where you see Roll constantly naked and a Megaman villain named after Brazilian politicians.

As a random trivia, Mike Patton is a real big fan of pornochanchadas.

That context does explain a lot, though I still definitely get a vibe of 00s webcomic, and not just because it has Mega Man being edged out of his own story by OCs the author very clearly wants to gently caress. Though I suppose it's still basically the same sensibility just before they had the internet to publish it on.

The only other thing I know about Brazillian comics is that Donald Duck and associated characters are/were crazy popular in Brazil as well as Italy, with some minor characters like Fethry Duck actually getting their own books for a while. (Not even getting into the Three Caballeros) To the point where Fethry has migrated (pun unintended) into the English stuff including the new DuckTales.

That is fascinating, thank you for sharing. I've always found it interesting how a region's art (being a bit generous for this comic, but w/e) will reflect its surroundings. I've been wondering about what weird and wonderful stuff COVID is going to be the onus of. I had to pleasure to witness some memory out of Wuhan during the early days of the incident and it was "hella dank". If you have more to say by all means please do share it. It'll give me some time to figure out what to do about this next chapter.
