And the mercy seat is awaiting,
And I think my head is burning,
And in a way I'm yearning,
To be done with all this measuring of proof.
An eye for an eye

And anyway I told the truth,
And I'm not afraid to die.

No cuz their best stuff was before 1981, so the correct answer is Phish.

Does Def Leppard count? :D The band was formed pre-1981, but they only really hit their stride in and after 1983, with albums like Pyromania and Hysteria.

Def Leppard's only good albums were '80 & '81, so no.

I can’t tell queens of the Stone Age and foo fighters apart. Does that mean they have to share billing as the best band since 1981?

Just thank Dave Grohl deep in the liner notes.

Its Kyuss or to a lesser extent QOTSA. Kyuss because it basically birthed Desert Rock/Stoner Rock, QOTSA for bringing it to the mainstream.

Theres plenty of 'best rock bands' that have less than 1 good albums worth of songs across their whole career. GnR, Motley Crue are the first two the come to mind
they arent bad and their famous songs are deserving classics, but they get way too much praise for what was probably just a case of right place, right time.

Motley Crue sucks. Just the worst of 80's glam in a saccharine package.

GNR I get. It's roots rock n' roll with a metal punch for the working man.

They could have written 20 masterpieces and it would still all be cancelled out by that nah nah why don't you get a job song.

Note that I did not include that one, along with some other well known but cheesy and/or limp-sounding songs.

I Choose, The Meaning of Life? You're missing these two songs from your list.

I can accept I Choose, even though I personally would choose otherwise, but when it comes to the best offspring song, I choose The Meaning of Life.

"I Choose" is one of the "limp-sounding" (IMO) songs I left out.

"The Meaning of Life" is solid, but not very addictive, IMO. Lacking a real hook.

"Jennifer Lost The War" ain't bad, but if it wasn't for Dexter's voice, I'd be hard pressed to say it was The Offspring. For me, it's just too far removed from the sound they're known for.

"Next To You" is overproduced. Sounds like a generic "radio-friendly" song.

Simple, the Traveling Wilburys. Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Roy Orbison, and Tom Petty in one group? That's more talent than some concert tours. Plus, Handle With Care is a legit banger.
