i just found out a local arcade has not only ddr but every cool konami music game from the mid 2000s as somebody who used to hustle other children as a kid in the arcades im losing my loving mind at this roster and im considering cancelling plans tonight to make 14 year old ce unreasonably happy. LOOK AT THIS SPREAD

I’m thinking an old skating rink building would be perfect size for a huge game space. think Dave and busters but less sports bar and more classic and modern arcade fusion. I want the aesthetic of the foot clan arcade/lair from the first tmnt movie in the 90s, just less smoking

there’s an arcade nearby that has a ton of custom cabinets for fighting games and they have several different leagues and it’s hugely popular here they also have at least a dozen DDR cabs and a gazillion claw machines and pachinko machines it’s fun to take the kids there in the winter to get them out of the house

those people clearly Give A poo poo about arcades. its cool that there are so many dave and busters but the game quality fuckin sucks. over half of it is just “smartphone game but giant” and not a single fighting game or beat em up in sight. they also invariably have the bullshit ddr clone “pump it up” with the dumb 5 button pad and awful song lists. theres some pretty ok barcades around but a lot of places throw in a bunch of neogeo and pacman cabinets and call it a day. its me i have loving opinions about arcades. having been to the tokyo, the holy land of arcades a ton between 1995-2005 as a kid/teenager on the way to visit family in indonesia i was lucky enough to play all the insane poo poo the companies were pumping out over there. i honestly thought arcades as an adult would be full of games like that timtok and theyre just. not and that bums me out the most considering were otherwise living in the cyberpunk dystopia of my 12 year old dreams

arcades do seem to be a dying genre what with smartphones and uh.. other things that have happened in the five decades since 2015 atmospherically, they could not be beat. there was a neat laser tag place right next to the tatong arcade, but it was always too expensive for me to play at

All the good games are gray market, that's why they don't show up at Dave and busters etc The only us arcade that is sort of allowed to run them legit is Round One and that's because they are a Japanese company

there's a place by me called "marvin's marvelous mechanical museum" and it's an arcade but also a museum that has a ton of old arcade games and those old mechanical things like fortune tellers etc. it rules

does anyone have experience using emuelec? i'm trying to get some scummvm poo poo to work but the instructions are pretty unhelpful, it just says to save it with a .scummvm extension in a named folder. well, okay, rename what? an iso? zip? i just wanna play monkey island and hugos house of horrors

I picked up brigador recently for 20 dollars on steams and it’s really fun, if you like stomping around in a mech and blowing up really nicely detailed 2d environments then I think you’ll like it too
