i also enjoyed dota but the friend group i played with had a falling out and i got sick of being berated by lovely people in the game. would unironically love a single player dota rpg where i got to play as nature's prophet, though

i've told this story multiple times now but when my friend was applying for jobs out of college he put down a bunch of things he did in dota 2 on his resume but worded them more professional e.g. lead team of 5 to success on project, tapered expectations, etc.

in high school there was this css server we used to play on all the time it was cs_office 24/7, hosted by some dude at georgia tech, and had all custom sound effects. i knew most of the people on it, and it rocked

Agile Vector posted:getting a good mental model of mortar arcs was such a rewarding skill I was never much of a FPS deathmatch player, but I did discover I had a knack for finessing the alt-fire of the UT flak cannon all the way across an open map with a high lob while moving and nailing another player heading in the opposite direction.

i always felt that moba matches were waaaay too long, i couldn't dedicate myself to 45 minute matches, i got way bored by the end c system shock s: the visual design of these puzzles is so confusing, i didn't realise that some plugs on the power puzzles are worth 2 and others 1 and on the pipe dream puzzle i spent ages trying to solve one only to realise that you could route through the little turny dials sometimes

(and it doesn’t help that blizzard is a trashfire company)

In tribes1, all the maps were broken when people discovered skiing, but t2 fixed a bunch of problems. i loved tribes 1 and was so pumped for tribes 2, but when it came out there were game breaking bugs like my mouse 2 getting “stuck” so i kinda bailed on it. i guess i missed out i’ll forever treasure my memories of packing my isp tech support coworkers into a transport and taxiing them around to rain mortar hellfire on the enemy base, bodies just flying out the door as they tried to escape
