once you get the hang of it it's really great. just zipping around and skeletonizing ships. I hosed up today venting gas, and the gas canisters exploded which caused the reactor core to explode. once my poor computer came out of single digit fps, there was just this massive debris field of metal chunks everywhere, it was awesome

doing a tether chain and watching all the side panels peel off a ship is so satisfying. then you gently caress up and hit yourself in the face with a cargo crate

here's an accurate video of learning the controls and breaking your first ship

my old corded 360 controller does this on the right stick, but to the left. just pull it apart and hit it with air or clean it with q-tips. otherwise get a new one lol

also why is your diagnostic reporting it as gamecube controller lol

yeah the little potentiometers in analog sticks wear out over time. they're mechanical parts with sliding contacts and it just happens. i think some of the super high end leet gamer ones use contactless magnetic sensors to avoid this issue.

depending on what controller you have, replacing the stick unit could be very simple. usually just open it up, detach a few cables, remove the old stick, and reverse the procedure with the new one. look on ebay for the replacement parts.

not even ebay, ali has replacement sticks for pennies if you're willing to use ali lol

like, your big plot hook is that there are dragons. in your painfully fuckin' generic fantasy setting. gently caress you, skyrim

in skyrim you trap a dragon in a castle so you can ride it, and you don't get to ride it and there isn't even a cutscene. I'm still hosed off about that

i loved the escape velocity games and, like subnautica, i wish i could go back and play them for the first time again because now i know everything about them and they're easy. still fun, but hard to find a challenge.

like in nova all you do is:

1. haul luxury goods from europa to earth a dozen times until you have like 50k
2. hire 5 cargo drones, repeat until you have about 150k
3. release the cargo drones, hire the cheapest most busted-rear end terrapin, switch to trading medical goods and luxury goods between earth and new ireland
4. continue hiring terrapins and running that loop until you have like a million bucks (20 minutes)
5. release all the terrapins, buy a valkyrie or starbridge, load it up with marine platoons, hire a couple of fighter escorts
6. go into an uninhabited system on a trade route and wait for an un-escorted leviathan to come by, then capture it as escort (pegasus works too)
7. go back to doing the earth/new ireland run with your giant new ship (you will now have to pay a 4000 credit bribe to land on earth but lol)
8. make 100 million credits in about another 20 minutes
9. congration you are 1 hour into the game and can buy everything and missions have no meaning

still fun though.

it's an open world game like morrowind so you make your own fun

why bother dominating the planet when you can just become Space Bezos, paying a $4000 fine for your illegal actions every time you do a cargo run that nets you $1.8 million
