I’ve been playing a lot of minecraft on a server with a ton of people and built a giant volcano that I stuffed a bunch of resource farms into the hole cut out of the island is a tree farm I’m working on since as it turns out! it’s hard to find wood when you live in the middle of the ocean

President Beep posted:haven’t played the java version in years. does it still run like poo poo? it scales to your hardware pretty well, I play with shaders and a resource pack that makes textures 3D and respond to light direction for shadowing and stuff and I average 60fps on a 1070ftw with an i7-7700k MC 1.16.1 caused some LF with redstone contraptions

oh for best performance you can download and install optifine I just tested and I get 150fps using optifine and no shaders or resource packs

President Beep posted:yeah, this is the stuff i don't want to gently caress around with. i'll just stick with my win 10 version and not worry about game janitoring. well it’s just a jar you put into the .minecraft folder then you select it from the launcher instead of the vanilla client as far as video game janitoring goes it’s benign at best and yields really solid performance improvements being honest tho the only reason java is better than bedrock is because the redstone stuff works better, if you just wanna build cool stuff any version will do and bedrock technically has better performance potential since it’s written in C++

I’m extremely hesitant to buy digital games for a system that will be outdated every 5-8 years and will require being pulled out of the closet in order to play old good games on I used to collect retro games and it was awesome when I was a bachelor and could have all my systems under my tv and have an switch that let me toss 4 systems per tv input, but now those systems are two year old bait and the cables are a combination of strangling hazard and yoinking the tv off the wall hazard so I can’t really go back and play super Mario sunshine or whatever without a lot of effort that being said I’m pretty sure none of my TVs have rca connections and I would imagine scaling with something other than that $400 Japanese scaler will make all my games look like poo poo unless I keep a 200lb 30 year old Panasonic on hand will the PS5 read PS1 and PS2 discs or will I have to rebuy them from some garbage Sony Store for $1 a pop

at least in my experience the only game that you really interact with others much in on the Switch is overwatch or that paint shoot game and I’m pretty sure neither allow you to type words in it and I’d be surprised if either have voice comms my kids are going to hate having a nerd for a dad who is going to have their technology locked down tighter than ft knox
