souls games are the only games i have patience to play these days. the lack of cutscenes, dialog, tedious sidequests, and generally obscure story is perfect for my lack of attention span. i finished ds1, 2 and 3 during the pandemic. 2 is definitely the weird one, it's actually good but the beginning area sucks. i like the happy chemical when i finally get to the next bonfire or finally kill that boss polyester concept fucked around with this message at 16:15 on Nov 4, 2021 |

I got BF 2042 for my ps4 pro and it's such an incredible downgrade compared to BF V, wow. They are probably focusing more on the PS5 release, and it shows. The LOD pop-in is horrendous, you see playstation 2 era graphics on player models and players far away lose all animations and look like they are just skating around on ice, lol. It's so bad. And a lot of areas in every map look like they were rushed with hardly any attention to detail anywhere except for generic crates and boxes placed around as obstacles. Plants vs Zombies Battle for Neighborville that my kids play is a better made game.

That is some funny poo poo, but the game actually just looks like a first gen ps4 title that got some new shaders tacked on as a cheap remaster or something. It actually looks worse than previous BF games some how. poo poo is always looking like this, too ![]()

I haven't really played an immersive single player rpg since skyrim, but i always liked how they at least tried to make npc's seem like they have lives. they wake up and have a daily schedule and then go back home at night. and they follow you around if you try doing suspicious poo poo. it was obviously far from perfect but it really made an improvement over the typical "this merchant stands at his fruit cart 24/7 day and night" thing. doesn't seem like anyone's trying to do that anymore, but i also haven't played anything modern because every ambitious game seems to launch as a pile of poo poo these days.

re: disco elysium. the trailer says its a huge open world, but the honest trailer says its just a few blocks of a city. which is true?

so far disco elysium reminds me a lot of the old blade runner point and click made by westwood.

I beat disco elysium after reading about it in this thread. It wasn't the experience I was expecting, but it wasn't a disappointment either. It brought back a lot of good memories playing the blade runner point and click in the late 90s, and scratched a gaming itch I didn't know I had. It took me 25 hours to beat, and a couple of those were wasted restarting with new stats a few times. It is not at all the open world that I was expecting, and was in fact quite linear. New areas don't open up until a certain amount of time has passed or certain events have taken place. NPCs do have a schedule kind of, but it's not as immersive as I was hoping (the kids in the alley never move, the lorry drivers and the scabs don't either, until you progress the story obviously). It wasn't bad by any means, just not the game I thought it was going in. I laughed a lot. I actually wish it was twice as long, I was really hoping to travel to another city district. The ending when you find out about your past based on the actions you made during the game was hilarious (I ended up being a former gym teacher because I always wore the FALN track suit and impatiently ran everywhere) I would play a sequel if there ever was one. polyester concept fucked around with this message at 16:26 on Dec 6, 2021 |

Cybernetic Vermin posted:i mean, yeah, but also it is pretty subversive about it in an interesting way. i think my favourite moment in the game was the emotion when it gave me the "The World's Most Laughable Centrist" achievement. legit getting trashtalked by my entertainment product. also of course the overall plot very much revolving around a failed revolution, and a doubly-failed revolutionary doing stupid pointless violent things. it certainly does not pander. To be honest, I didn't really find a lot of the political discourse part of the game to be that entertaining, and ended up skimming through most of the heavier stuff. I got more lost in the personal stories of the people you meet, rather than trying to take sides. I got the centrist achivement too, but it was only because I opted to focus on details of the case as a priority.

I had no experience with zelda other than OOT. I got it for christmas '98 along with a bunch of other kids at school. Coming back after the new year and talking with everyone about how far you got over xmas break, and which temples you beat was definitely part of the experience for me. I never bothered with gamecube but I got twilight princess for wii and never played it for more than a few hours.

open world games feel so tedious to me now - the bigger they are, the more sparse and boring they become. and to fill in the emptiness of increasingly bigger and bigger worlds, they lean on procedurally generated content which just makes it feel even more boring and empty. getting older and losing that sense of wonder probably has a lot to do with it.

also oot was the first game i played with optional minigames (fishing and the horse track come to mind) that you could do if you got stuck somewhere or just wanted to mess around for a while. it was the coolest thing to me at the time and did wonders for the immersion. another thing that’s kind of expected now in just about every game
