some people like forced slow travel (and self-inflicted) in open worlds like botw and rear end creed

ive not really heard of it in ER and far cries

i usually want to get to the point but there is definitely a mood to be enjoyed in such as botw where you just listen to the music and ride

it seems inflicted some times in rockstar games they just want you to give credit to artist/slaves where due

Yeah, I'm not going to argue that fast travel is bad (It's very good), but rather that it can emphasize how cookie-cutter things are (by allowing you to approach them outside of the context of the "geography" of the game world) and how unnecessary the "open world" part is (by allowing you to not engage with it)

And as you point out, if you throw in unsatisfying "normal" traversal, fast travel can ALSO often highlight how unsatisfying your normal traversal is. (See Spiderman for fast-travel highlighting the opposite, how awesome the default traversal is)

yeah a lot of people seemed to complain about ac:origins being Mediterranean villa with red or blue stripes and repeat and that was a fair criticism

big worlds get that sameness and repetitive quests of defeat the chief don’t help

just filler in an otherwise fun game

botw put some flavor in 4+ locales and gta and horse gta is pretty immersive in that it feels like the strip that exists in modern life and wildery plus human incursion like we imagine the west
