Did anyone play Sunset Overdrive and is it as fun an open-world shooter as it looks? I saw it on Windows Store (lol) for a couple of quid but didn't buy it, just saw it on a proper Steam key for a little extra outlay and the video reviews I checked give it a very vertical Saints Row vibe to them.
it's really fun, and definitely worth playing, especially if you can get it cheap

things i have been playing:

west of dead: a neato roguelite twin-stick shootery thing that apes mike mignola art set in a western movie afterlife. i'm very bad at it

the last of us remaster: i played some of it on ps3 and didn't get very far, but i'm giving it another shot and enjoying it a lot more. we'll see how far i get

animal crossing: it's animal crossing and i'm just waiting for july to hit for the update and new critters at this point

ringfit adventure: it's a decent workout i can do at home

journey to a savage planet: fun first person exploration shooter thing

mad max is fine, but EXTREMELY ubisoft GO TO THE TOWER TO OPEN THE MAP AND GET A BUNCH OF ICONS OF THINGS YOU CAN DO style of gameplay. also the hunchback dude is really annoying since he has like three voice clips for when you're driving around whcih you do a lot of

I wonder if Steam would ever branch out into a monthly 'Steampass'..?? Market is obviously there and they have the PC game store majority by a big margin.

that would require someone at valve to do things like set up contracts and poo poo, and they are only capable of making freemium DLC now

the just-released Steam version is touted as the 'Ultimate' with both add-on dlcs included, not sure if they are planning any more after this to make a bit extra cash from the new playerbase though.

Looking at the Steam reviews (never a good idea usually) this version has some always-on connection DRM bullshit that neither the Epic nor the upcoming (sept 10th) GOG version do, so if that's an issue then wait for the GOG version.

the ultimate edition is the one you want

i've been playing spiritfarers on xbox (it's also on pc) thanks to gamepass. it's a fun little game where you're playing charon's replacement, transporting spirits around a big ocean. you have to manage your boat by growing food and making materials and stuff. it's really chill, but fun and the art style is very nice. definitely worth the $0 it cost me.

NFS Most Wanted is a good racer if you liked the early Burnouts, both developed by Criterion Games.

the big negative is that since they use real cars, they had to up graphic fidelity, so they're framelocked to 30 fps instead of 60 fps like burnouts

i'm still curious as to how it passed console certification when they fail titles for things like "game freezes 1/10 times when repeatedly plugging and unplugging an obscure japanese fishing controller while loading level 3" or not using the exact nomenclature when telling people not to turn off the system when saving to their Playstation 2 Memory Card (8MB)™, yet lights designed to induce seizures, textures not loading and dongs clipping through pants are just fine
sony and ms (and maybe nintendo, but it's less of an issue there) will allow major developers to tell them things they know will fail cert when they go gold and then swear up and down they'll fix them on a day one patch so they can make their schedule. you can see how successful that is!

i've gotten a bunch of weapons and gear, but haven't actually changed anything since upgrading what i've been using seems to give better weapons? idk, i get the feeling it's a deliberate design choice versus the past couple being loot games. i haven't really been without things to do, but accidentally got myself without a main quest for a bit and had to remember how to get it back. i've been having fun exploring the mysteries and finding treasures and only occasionally hitting the main story and i'm at a bit over 30 hours in now.
