The fights on the way to Capra are there to teach you some lessons and Capra himself is the examiner who checks to see if you've learned them. Take control of your positioning and the terms of the engagement basically. Don't allow yourself to be engaged right at the door on his terms, rush past up the stairs and engage him on yours.

XV gameplay is pretty bad and the plot and characters are alright at best. FFVII-R is better, though some of the changes to the story are divisive to say the least.

Those are all review units sent out to YouTube Professional Thing Likers, so the thermal throttling is probably severely restricted or outright disabled to boost the apparent performance of the system in order to generate maximum YouTube Reaction Face Naturally these review units will die inside of a month from the resulting thermal stresses, the actual retail units probably maintain a more realistic thermal envelope. Anyway lol if you buy a console and double lol if you buy a launch unit to play launch titles.

I love msfs but it is a steaming pile of HTML and JavaScript dog poo poo all the way down. Seven segment LCD in the cockpit? That's an html5 web page. Ten of those numeric LCDs? Well, that's ten html5 web pages, each with their own instance of an HTML Dom, CSS data structures, and a JavaScript VM. You can key in a three letter code for a radio navigation beacon into your simulated aircraft to look up its latitude and longitude for navigation. The sim has an in memory list of maybe a hundred thousand of these beacons all around the world. It takes five seconds to perform a lookup on this list. Because the lookup is done from the loving JavaScript, and every step of the iteration involves a whole bunch of ffi calls out of the JavaScript interpreter into c++ code, with all of the string and object heap allocation that entails. Even then I have no idea how on earth it takes this long.

Playing through Chrono Trigger again in Japanese Game still good I shelved my attempt to set up a Raspberry Pi to output composite to this CRT TV because there's some vertical resolution fuckery that would require Linux fuckery to fix and I don't really feel like dealing with it right now. Instead I'm running it on my desktop and throwing the 1000000000 transistors inside my modern GPU at the task of making the emulated output image look exactly the right kind of old and lovely and it seems to work pretty nicely. noooooo don't play Bloodstained on the Switch, the Switch port is atrocious. I think they recently fixed it up to the level of "very bad" but it took them something like six months after release to even get that far. The devs got absolutely ripped apart for how bad it was, it was practically all anybody would talk about when it came to that game.Jenny Agutter posted:regarding the pi, were you using the built in composite output 3.5mm jack thingy? Yes, but it's outputting 480i, and the SNES has a whole bunch of different video modes, none of which have a 480-line vertical resolution. Retroarch AFAIK just tries to smear that out to 480 lines instead of letterboxing it or whatever and it looks terrible. There's probably a way to fix it but I don't feel like wasting an entire weekend figuring it out.

There are a whole bunch of largely discredited game mechanics that the modern gaming industry has thankfully left behind. Though most of those discredited game mechanics live on in JRPGs.

Hades is fun but I've done about 40 runs at this point and 30 of them ended with me dying to the final boss. I feel like the game is rather laggy on that fight if you use the Vulkan build but even so it's quite the difficulty spike and it's a 30-40 minute trip back there every time.

Releasing a scrambled-around version of DS2 was an awful idea to begin with and SotFS was a bad execution of this bad idea as well. Every single one of the fifty-odd item and enemy placement changes they made caused the game to be worse and not better. DS2 is my favorite Fromsoft game, or at least the one that I got the most mileage out of, but cripes SotFS was bad.

XCOM2 was fun, although I never liked the slew of contrivances for why each mission needs to be completed in X turns or less. Have the timer trigger increasing waves of reinforcements instead, and add a global alert level that increases when you explode too much civilian poo poo or get into too many extended fire fights. Then again the whole system of alerting enemy pods that is characteristic of the new XCOM series leads to fairly contrived strategies in general.
|
![]() |
|
If there's no RNG then turn-based strategy games become rather simple. Most of the fun in XCOM comes from those times when your guy does miss that critical 90% shot, then one of your guys gets shot in the face and you have to decide when and how to complete the mission or abort and try to extract before he bleeds out.

I want one of the new AMD cards purely for Linux compatibility (because I have the sort of brain problems that makes people want to mainline Linux) but otherwise I'm still using a regular-rear end GTX 1080 from 2016 or so and it seems to work fine? There aren't really any games coming out at the moment anyway on account of the plague. Still, I really hope this GPU doesn't decide to die any time soon, because if it does then I guess I'll really be getting into SNES emulation for a year or so. Or dusting off the Bloodborne Box at the very least.

Kinda funny that Apple, literally the new Microsoft, does not support the industry standard next generation graphics api that all other platforms support, and in fact goes out of their way not to support it in order to introduce anti-competitive obstacles to smartphone application portability. I must admit to being perplexed by the people still using non-mobile Apple devices because Apple could not make it any more obvious that they do not give a poo poo about you, but are nonetheless willing to accept the money that you continue to push toward them.

Windows Mixed Reality is atrociously designed buggy garbage for everything except the core VR system. Shocking coming from noted high-quality software house Microsoft, I know. Just everything about the whole experience from WMR to Steam VR to Alyx itself is completely devoid of explanations and is a multi-hour puzzle in its own right. I'm not even sure if I'm supposed to play this sitting down or standing up or what, everything was around shin-height when I tried it standing. I set the movement to full iron stomach COME AT ME BRO mode and it definitely took me a little bit of time to learn to suppress the vertigo from the continuous movement mode. Then I encountered a wall I'm clearly supposed to vault over, saw an explanatory popup in the corner of my eye for half a second, couldn't get over the wall at all, then a minute later the game crashed. A+ experience. It is amazingly smooth and pretty though, especially considering my PC isn't exactly top of the line. I bought the super duper high resolution HP headset. e: figured a few more things out, this is pretty neat Sapozhnik fucked around with this message at 04:44 on Apr 17, 2021 |
