NoneMoreNegative posted:Decided to try Far Cry 5 on the free weekend, I played 1-4 all through to completion and enjoyed them all (to varying degrees), this one seems very much 'more of the same', very pretty looking game as well. I popped 3 cultists with a pistol and then found a compound bow in a bunker as my first mission reward and I haven't picked up another gun since - clearing an outpost without them ever knowing you were there is a lot of fun. The bow handles much like the previous games, especially in Blood Dragon where I also used it pretty much exclusively. they story is probably the worst of the series, but it does look fantastic and its a fun world to play around in. Roosevelt posted:feeling frisky. which is the best wolfenstein? the new order (1) and the new colossus (2) are both very good and theres no reason you shouldn't play 1 and then 2

Sagebrush posted:i got the halo master chef collection and man, original halo is not as good a game as i remembered. miles and miles of literally identical corridors and arenas, tons of one-hit kill bullshit, not enough ammo, really inaccurate weapons, and the checkpoint system is super dumb and only saves at some random point in the middle of nowhere instead of after a big battle so you have to keep playing the same fight over and over again. halo was insanely bad and boring but it was the first playable fps on a console

i bought titanfall 2 and im going thru the single player and its pretty good. the research lab w/ the time mechanic combined w/ the titanfall movement is probably one of the most fun things in a video jame in a long time.

computer toucher posted:seriouspostibg about vidya shames: there’s something about rdr2 and it’s open world which makes it feel shallow, like you find a farmhouse and the only thing you can anticipate is either getting ignored or shot at. Fallout did this much better, where a lot of locations told a little story and you could interact with the npc’s so exploring had always a sense of excitement to it. in rdr2 it’s just wilderness, animals and bandits. I found a cool house with all sorts of lamps and stuff inside but there was no way to get inside or any hint of what that house was so it was just static graphics as far as I could tell. meh. rdr2 looked like a reskin of gta's bad combat but with tedious horse maintenance mechanics so i skipped it

system shock and system shock 2 are both really good as is system shock 3 (for some reason ss3 is called Prey). ss1 is kind of rough to play because of the janky controls. ss2 is still really good and you can get some texture packs for the environment and weapons that make it look better at high rez. ss remastered has been in the pipe for atleast 4 years and i hope it turns out well.

Skyrim is the more polished game (and even then it's a hack / shoehorn vr implementation) but I really liked the pistol gunplay in F4, plus they are both still the only true big open world VR games on offer. idk how skyrim vr is but fo4vr is broken abandonware

far cry 2 had so much good poo poo like the different damage animations. not just pure quantity of animations, but by damage type. also better ai, better environmental destruction/effects, better everything other than maybe plot. seeing fart cry 5 look pretty amazing but then you get up close and the bushes are sprites is just really lovely.

i just started playing satisfactory and now its 4 am. its pretty good, but i dont think ive gotten that far. if they could add some kind of exploration based mystery like subnautica it would be pretty amazing.

satisfactory is real good. if you liked factorio you'd probably like it. Its similar to subnautica in some of the resource gathering and crafting aspects, but it doesnt have the same drive for exploration that subnautica does (yet). you need to explore to find more resources, but there isnt really a story at this point in development.

i tried fallout 76 when they had a free weekend on steam and it was janky and laggy. they havent fixed anything and it wont be worth playing until they get rid of the multiplayer and the bethesda store. they wont ever do either of those.

NoneMoreNegative posted:the just-released Steam version is touted as the 'Ultimate' with both add-on dlcs included, not sure if they are planning any more after this to make a bit extra cash from the new playerbase though. if its normal steam drm you have to launch the game once while steam is online and then it can be played offline.

Achmed Jones posted:what makes epic worse than any other digital game store? the whole spat with Apple is dumb but people have hated epic for a long time and I don't really get why its probably fine now but when they started buying up exclusives it didnt have basic functionality that steam had, but i think they've added most of it. alot of it is people dont like the exclusivity deals, but from the dev/publisher standpoint its totally understandable when you realize just how much money Epic is paying. pubs/devs get more of a cut then they'd normally get of sales plus the estimated losses from not being on steam plus some additional money. it'd be kind of crazy for a developer or publisher to turn it down. especially since they expire and then you get another bunch of sales on steam. idk if its working out for epic, but its probably the best strat they could have. the secret real best alternative to steam by miles and miles is Xbox game pass. Its like all the best games of the last 10 years for $5/month and then some newer ones like FS2020.

they put almost no effort into bf5 and it feels like a community made mod for bf1. what little effort they did make went into loving up the gunplay and squad mechanics. if you got it for free then its probably worth giving a try but i wouldnt spend any money on it.

FAT32 SHAMER posted:I’m extremely hesitant to buy digital games for a system that will be outdated every 5-8 years and will require being pulled out of the closet in order to play old good games on i'd imagine for sony it will be like steam or xbox where you buy the game and you can play it on all ur devices for all games from the last generation and onward cause its all PCs. nintendo has the dual problems of completely different and incompatible hardware for every console release and then being the worst at online services with xbox specifically they're gonna be going hard on xbox game pass over the next few years probably ending up with game streaming as the final form of the xbox brand.

Agile Vector posted:i got a bit frustrated early on with the controls so I've not gotten far. its neat through and a nice change from flying the ships i dont use wasd (cause im not a scrub) so i rebound everything anyway and it works fine for movement, but there are some oddities with some of the tool controls. the game doesnt have scroll wheel tool switch like you'd expect which is annoying, but then there are other wierd things like the cutter has 3 modes (precise, wide cut vertical, wide cut horizontal) and instead of just having a button to switch between those 3 modes you have to hit the weapon bind button to switch between precise and widecut and then once it wide cut you can use a different key to switch between vertical and horizontal. i think its the kind of thing that gets cleaned up as more people play and it works its way thru early access player input.
