More than that, any sparks of integrity or compassion or vision they evidence are crushed by a system that pushes them headlong towards their worst instincts. An actively malevolent figure serves as the embodiment of that system. In this show, every single main character is meant to be charming or loveable in some way. The focus is on character relationships and wacky hijinks, not on systemic faults. What parody there is, is gentle, not cutting.
