Isn't it based on an eurocomic? I haven't watched the show but I read some of the books way back and there probably wasn't an episode named Afromerica.

the Show has little to do with the comics. One of the main characters name is Jeremiah and it's post-apocalyptic. That's about it for the similarities. It's 99,99% JMS show.

Absolutely nothing relating past 2:1 in that spoiler. I can assure you of that but I'll stay in other thread from now on.

I put it in a spoiler because I didn't know if Aardvark or The Doctor were the only people doing the watch-through.

:justpost: them in the main thread in tviv.

There's couple rewatchers there, but no organized reviewing.

S2Ep22 - The Fall of Night

Welles is particularly slimy, coming across as a pound shop Kyle Maclachlan. And Zack finally realises what Night Watch actually is, with carting off shopkeepers for thought crimes. “Ohhh they’re fascists.” Good job Kenickie. They’ve got no problem attempting to openly recruit Ivanova (would they have given her the Captain post if he refused to apologise?), and make no bones about being quite fash and gestapo-esque. But Lantz (higher up in the MoP) doesn’t seem to know what they do? Or just had never concerned himself with them? Seeing EarthGov go full facist is quite depressing right now, as you know <gestures at everything happening>. :smith:

Current times and viewers experiences really change the scene.
Late '90s were such an optimistic era and fasc-ish earth felt such a fresh take on a scifi setting for a teen me.
Today the optimistic Trek-ish future would be the freshest take.

As long as you don't read the pages for episodes you haven't watched, the Lurker's Guide has no spoilers. It was a site that was developed in the 90s by fans who were watching the show. It contains their analysis of the plot/characters/etc. and a list of unanswered questions from each episode, but none of that was written by people who knew anything past the most recently aired episode. Of course it's your call as to whether you want to consume that sort of material during a first watch, but it's not something you absolutely have to avoid.

:yeah:

I followed the Lurker’s guide back in the 90:s, when the show was on Finnish tv. We were 2-3 season behind the American tv, but I never felt, that I was spoiled by the guide. It’s a good source for B5 trivia and spoiler free speculation.

It's also an episode that establish that Franklin always consider himself to be in the right. He's not out of touch, it's the patients that are wrong.

More on the believers

Franklin is legally wrong. Is he morally right or wrong can be debated.
Factually he is correct and parents and their culture is poo poo, but it isn't our place to 'fix it'.
Alien species aren't subjects to human laws/morality when dealing with their own people. Which is a necessary for a neutral station to work.
Human alliance isn't USA and can't force their cultural values on aliens.

Aliens want to kill their young? As long as it doesn't disrupt the functioning of the station.
Narns doing Narn things? Not our problem. Narns and Centauris having disagreement? That's a problem.

Secret to B5 budget was to get most of the background props from LA flea markets.

That's an alien decander! :okpos:

I'd consider your short absence being just a traditional short break between seasons.
We're all looking forward to your impressions/reactions.
