I watched The Gathering years after finishing the series, and I never felt like I had missed something. Granted, I didn't pay too much attention to it at that time, because I don't think it's that engaging. But there was never a moment of "ah, so that is why x happened" or something like that. I think the first season properly sets up the show without needing the pilot.

It's really cool to see all of you happily watch B5. And you're fortunate, you don't have to wait a week between each new episode, or even months between seasons, like we had to back in the day. You can watch it at your own pace. :)

Yes, exactly. Once, I couldn't watch an episode live, so I asked my parents to record it on VHS. They did watch it, but forgot to set the VCR. And later they told me "the episode wasn't that great". It was the second episode of a two parter...

To say I was unhappy would be an understatement. I had to wait like 5 years for re-runs to finally get to see that episode.

You're brave, I'd always be wary of looking up things like that for fear of spoilers.

Yeah, it's often compared to a stage play on television. And if I recall correctly, several of the actors were more known for their theater work than television roles at the time B5 was shot.

Bad News: This thread made me want to go rewatch B5, but sometime since my last rewatch a couple of years ago it went from free on Amazon Prime to per-episode-purchase on Amazon Prime. Being able to watch b5 is one of the reasons I finally broke down and got that drat service, what a gip!

Good News: Learning this allowed me to discover that Prime has apparently ALL of Stargate on it, from the original film through to Universe. Back in my college years I caught a lot of piecemeal episodes of SG1 and Atlantis on the SciFi channel, but I've never watched it in order all the way through. Maybe I'll follow in this thread's footsteps and do that :)

Yeah, that's a good idea. If you like B5 and DS9, then I would think you will like Stargate. It has the Monster of the Week episodes while still keeping the overall plot in mind. At least once you're past the early SG1 seasons.

I'm still sad that I never could get one of my friends who's a huge Stargate fan to watch B5 :(

Please inform us if you decide to start a Stargate thread, I don't usually browse this sub-forum, and wouldn't have found this thread if it hadn't been mentioned in the main (spoiler) B5 thread.

Also that static upside down picture of the station in C&C. Why is it upside down?!

But is it upside down? Which way is up, when from the perspective of the inhabitants, up is always towards the station's core, since they're simulating gravity by having the station rotate?

I wondered about this, because I think S1E20 refers to Babylon 4 as the largest of the human stations(?). Have we gotten a rough population count for B5 so far, by the way? I may have missed it.

Rewatch the intro for season 2 for an answer to your question :)

All of your posts reacting to one of my favorite series is a rare ray of sunshine in these times. Please view the episodes at the pace that's best for you folks, but be aware that we all really, really appreciate your postings.

And yes, while season 1 was already good, it had some issues stemming from being the first season of the show. B5 really hits it's stride in the second season, you are right to look forward to that :)

I really, really appreciate every new watcher sharing their first time reactions with us. I know there's not a lot of feedback, but that's because we're trying very hard not to spoil anything.

Have with with the next few episodes, they're all really good except for one.

I suppose any conspiracy of this type that believes it's on the side of right is going to sound exactly like this, but recent history has me skittish of it even though we're clearly meant to be on their side.

Lots of B5 episodes can be seen in a new light, and it's striking that the twin whammies of COVID and January 6th are arguably as much of a watershed as 9/11 and the fall of the Soviet Union were.

[*]the various ambassadors tell the parents to gently caress off with varying levels of kindness. love the Vorlon just calling them tiny pebbles, like yeah what other answer were you expecting

I think this goes back to the pilot. The parents ask Kosh how he would feel if a human doctor operated on him without his consent, which is exactly what happened in the pilot of B5. So his comment of "the avalanche has already started, it's too late for the pebbles to vote" might be an allusion that he already was operated on without his consent. At least that's my interpretation.

It occurs to me now that he might also be speaking about the doctor operating on the kid in this exact moment. It's been a while since I saw Believers, would the timing work for this interpretation?

I've just looked back over my episode-by-episode reactions over the past 10 months. I had a fair amount of correct predictions and good guesses, but also my share of total misses. So I present to you the best of the worst, my wrongest predictions and most off-base ideas!

  • s01e02 - Soul Hunter: "So... Sinclair has the hots for Delenn, right? I'm not crazy? He totally wants her headbone?"
  • s02e02 - Revelations: "They're setting up so much suspicious stuff about the new President (the former VP) that I've come all the way around to thinking it's too obvious, there's got to be a twist coming."
  • s02e06 - A Spider in the Web: "So the evil Psi Corps woman who was at the surgery and in the dramatic reveal at the end is totally going to be Talia's old mentor Abby, right?"
  • Predictions for the second half of the show: "The bad guys (eventually) get their comeuppance, particularly Morden, Bester, and President Clark." (Two out of three ain't bad.)
  • Predictions for the second half of the show: "Sheridan and Delenn are totally going to hook up. Ivanova and Marcus too." The first was obvious by this point, the second... oof. :(
  • s03e13 - Ship of Tears: "They're certainly establishing the hell out of the fact these new starfuries can operate in an atmosphere and the old ones can't. Oh well, I'm sure that's just extraneous info and won't become an important plot point or anything soon." I don't think it ever came up again.
  • s04e21 - Rising Star: "...it's still hard to believe that G'Kar would ever forgive Londo for starting the war in the first place."

In regards to Starfuries, the new ones could get into Mars' thin atmosphere and bomb the crap out of those who resisted Clark's dictatorship :(
