I'm more concerned that it's first-person only. I appreciate them trying to make it "immersive" because of the VR aspect but I really want my 3rd person BF2 SFA perspective. I tried playing in cockpit mode in BF2 and it's really hard to see what the hell is going on especially in ships like the A-Wing. I'd be totally fine if only VR players were required to play in FP mode but I don't really care for VR, especially because not everything appears "sharp" and you have that annoying screen door effect causing even more problems.

As for having higher player counts, War Thunder does dogfights with huge teams and they turn into hilariously fun mosh pits so I don't see why they couldn't do the same here.

Until BF2's SFA mode, I would get on War Thunder and blast some Star Wars space battle music while joining those mosh pits.

I'm fine with 5v5 as a separate mode for those sessions where you just want to focus on dog fighting while simultaneously trying to complete the objectives, but don't get in the way of my mindless carnage.

Never mind, I completely missed the section about massive fleet battles because all I saw was 5v5 everywhere. They really need to stress the fleet battle portion in their marketing.

After playing solely in cockpit mode for a few hours in BF2, I'm actually surprised with how much I now prefer it as opposed to 3rd person. You also get a better sense of speed when you're at full throttle so VR will probably feel even crazier.

A lot of missions involved doing routine scanning of cargo ships at waypoints/obscure space station, and then you find smuggled weapons and a squad of rebel fighters come in to try and rescue them or something and empire scrambles the rest of the tie fighters. Or a general is in a lambda shuttle and rebels are doing a guerilla attack on it with a heavy bomber and a handful of A-wings while the empire responds with a few tie fighters. Not every battle needs to be battle of endor

This is literally X-Wing Alliance.

We need an X-Wing Alliance sequel that focuses on Ace and his family rebuilding and wrapping up their loose ends while helping the Alliance clean up the remaining Imperial forces. Meanwhile, the underworld crime lords are scrambling to fill up the power vacuums that the dissolved Empire has left behind.

How does the Valve Index's comfort compare to the HTC Vive? I would get a headache after about 30 minutes because of the weight but I'd be willing to drop some money on the Index if it's noticeably lighter.

Apparently the Andrastra is in a miniatures game so at least someone remembers.

I want to finally use that Luxury Pass for Dunari's Casino.

All the original voice actors are still working so getting them back wouldn't be an issue since they usually record them separately.

As long as they also get the guy who did the original music for stuff like this:

I really hope EA works with more artists like The Hu to give us a wider library of in-universe music in future games. I'm not expecting a radio feature for Squadrons but maybe when you're in a garage you'll hear tracks like this played in the background ambience like the XWA Family Room.

Where are y'all signing up for play testing? I have hundreds of hours in SFA on BF2 so I figured EA would have sent out invites to people who prefer that mode/

Looks like I signed up for this already. Oh well. Maybe they'll have an open beta test soon.

Pulled the trigger and ordered prescription lens inserts for my Vive and joystick/throttle mounts for my chair.

I'll try out VR in multiplayer but will probably reserve that just for the single-player mode.

Honestly a FTL kind of game managing a capital ship like an ISD would be really fun. Somewhere between FTL’s granularity and BFG’s boring scale.

On a whim, I bought an early-access VR game called BattleGroup VR where you command your ship from the bridge/tactical map as well as other ships in your fleet. It's still got a lot of polishing ahead of it but shows amazing promise so far. You can tell that the devs are serious about capturing that "Bridge Command" aspect.

It's why I'm also glad that Ubisoft made that Star Trek VR game that actually isn't terrible overall.
