Having been on the back side of one of those weapons, they're absolutely terrifying to think about being in front of.

We merely used them to warn off small boats from like a loving mile away. You could hook up a mic to it and your target would hear you a mile away, clearly.

Relevant info

quote:

The extra-aural (unrelated to hearing) bioeffects on various internal organs and the central nervous system included auditory shifts, vibrotactile sensitivity change, muscle contraction, cardiovascular function change, central nervous system effects, vestibular (inner ear) effects, and chest wall/lung tissue effects. Researchers found that low frequency sonar exposure could result in significant cavitations, hypothermia, and tissue shearing. No follow up experiments were recommended. Tests performed on mice show the threshold for both lung and liver damage occurs at about 184 dB. Damage increases rapidly as intensity is increased. The American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) has stated that there have been no proven biological effects associated with an unfocused sound beam with intensities below 100 mW/cm² SPTA or focused sound beams below an intensity level of 1 mW/cm² SPTA.

These things are loud enough to cause cavitation between your organs in your body, and tissue shearing (which would lead to massive internal hemmorhage potentially), they can absolutely kill you if they're turned up.

I guarantee the loving PDs deploying these weapons do not understand this, are trained on this, or care about this.

I'd much rather be hit with pepper bullets and poo poo, these things can pulverize your guts and you bleed out without even having external wounds or being able to be medically aided if you don't have a trauma center handy.

Exactly. As I implied in my own reply, if/when a competent and better-credentialed fascist comes along, with that Reaganesque "aw shucks" charisma to cloak their ill intent, expect ~The Lincoln Project~ to be on their hands and knees eating it all up. It's in their name, for gently caress's sake. That old "Party of Lincoln" bullshit.

They're pissed that Trump is undermining their control over the GOP, and know that if he somehow manages to win again it's not going to be THEIR party anymore.

Theoretically yes in a controlled setting but practically you’d end up canceling the incoming wave at a few small volumes in your body and having no effect in the real world. Headphones can do it because the only part they have to care about is the eardrum, and that’s going to be at a known position relative to the headphone emitter.

Wait till pigs get their hands on these. They use 95GHz RF energy to heat the top layer of your skin to over 130F, which makes you think your skin is on fire, and in fact can burn you. In human volunteer tests, nobody could tolerate more than about 5 seconds of exposure. While it's classed as a non-lethal weapon that cannot permanently harm someone, imagine shooting someone with glasses, or a tattoo. Since this weapon penetrates clothing, it can heat a tattoo to the point that it releases large amounts of toxic chemicals into the subject's body, and eyeglasses have the potential to focus the RF beam to a point that could severely burn the eyes/eyelids.

Imagine this deployed against those people who were trapped up against that fence in those earlier protests.

The DOD did not deploy these weapons in Iraq or Afghanistan because of fear that locals would consider the weapon a form of torture, and the weapons would potentially be in violation of the rules of war.

We've got the military -- have just deployed some of these into Iraq, where you can put fake troop movements quarter of a mile away on a hillside. (Laughter) Or you can whisper in the ear of a supposed terrorist some Biblical verse. (Laughter) I'm serious. And they have these infrared devices that can look at their countenance, and see a fraction of a degree Kelvin in temperature shift from 100 yards away when they play this thing. And so, another way of hopefully determining who's friendly and who isn't. We make a version with this which puts out 155 decibels. Pain is 120. So it allows you to go nearly a mile away and communicate with people, and there can be a public beach just off to the side, and they don't even know it's turned on. We sell those to the military presently for about 70,000 dollars, and they're buying them as fast as we can make them. We put it on a turret with a camera, so that when they shoot at you, you're over there, and it's there.

quote:

An egghead once told me what was in these canisters, but what I learned is that scientists like to get creative when naming their implements of destruction. What I can say is the mixture for each pod includes something called 'Tubarão.' Real nasty stuff. Apparently it reacts violently with the byproducts of strong acids, which are packed into each pod by the dozen. The end result causes eruptions of highly corrosive gas that’ll dissolving anything solid in short order. Effective, but a terrible waste of potentially good salvage.

The poor guy seemed so proud of what he made. War crimes are all good fun, until they make you inhale.

What's hosed about this is CDC is already run by a crony and is getting progressively shittier / less reliable under the administration. I guess there's enough holdouts left over there to keep it from going full poo poo.

Everyone I knew who worked at CDC was fired or quit within the last 3 years so I don't have any real inside news on how it's going there anymore.

Y'all are correct, but ain't poo poo getting done to sever health insurance from employers until both happen:
1) Congress flips to fully Democratic (plus presidency, duh)
2) Medicare for All becomes a popular position.

As soon as people get presented with Medicare for All mechanics, their brains break and they yell about it being too expensive communism. They're completely wrong, but that's why Biden is heavily pushing the public option - getting insurance directly from the government as an option, rather than mandated. It's a step towards the severance of health insurance from employers and a step that Democrats didn't even want back in 2009-2010.

Medicare for All is the correct and right decision. It's also arguably electoral poison right now. Politics is stupid.
