I will not shut up about the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. I talk about them all the time and work them into every conversation I have. I built a shrine in my room for the yellow one who died because sadly no one noticed because she died around 9/11. Wanna see it?

Pick posted:

there's a phenomenon in English language called "elegant variation"

It dates to when "elegant" meant overwrought or pretentious.

Anyway, it refers to how English-speakers feel a need to vary the words we use to refer to something, else writing or language feels stilted. E.g., "The sheep went downstrairs. The sheep ate an apple, and then the sheep watched the television. As it slept, the sheep ate food and the sheep went to bed. The sheep dreamed about things that the sheep thought were worth dreaming about." See? Feels like something that's almost childlike.

I mentioned this only to say that star trek eroticateers had to invent new words for "cloaca" because you can only say "cloaca" so many times in one paragraph before it feels stilted. The English language is always evolving.
