Tulip posted:Planetes above all others. I know this is the animation thread but I thought the original manga for Planetes was 1000% better. It has a much tighter story focusing solely on the crew of the Toybox and doesn't completely put off the Tanabe/Hachi romance until the very end.

The premise is that kaiju start showing up in Australia and so the entire continent just gets abandoned by the military. The show proper takes place five years after that with everything in ruins. The biggest problem it has is near the end because the movie tried to keep things fairly realistic with their stuff but the show just throws it all away by having a kaiju that can look like a normal human but also transform into a giant monster.
