New Trackmania is good, I like the new visual style and new dirt blocks. The track review server is fun and also a good place to learn what makes a good or bad track. Client performance seems a bit all over the place with different setups. Apparently certain gamepads (normally PS4) or peripherals are causing frame drops. Map of the day is a good idea too.

As far as I can tell club gives you: Create and join clubs Access private club maps, campaigns, servers, rankings, skins Host public dedicated servers (self hosted or use TM servers) Ability to use custom car skins Register and compete in official Trackmania Open Grand League If you want to play on a private server with friends, I think only one person needs club access.
