It was the Atari 2600 game that sunk any hope for a sequel, I think. There was that (I think) Super Bowl commercial that featured a grownup Elliot that was sort of a sequel.

None of this is to say they won�t reboot it or make a sequel or prequel in the near future, though. Gotta get that nostalgia money.
