There was also the weird backpack "real hip hop" detour that produced a lot of self important garbage. I'd submit early 2000s backpacker shows for some of the smelliest shows of all time. At least El-P and ultimately RTJ came out of all that.

It’s like being into Rock music and listening to big bandstand music from the 50s.
