Colony Target: A The lack of neutronium will hamper a possible future development of Naval construction, but until this is even remotely on the agenda, sufficient shipping will exist for us to make good of the lack of ressources. Fleet programme: B While we expand our teritory we need forces to cover our extrasolar colonies and patrol our shipping lanes. Which requires fleet units tailored towards this role, espeacially a long range escort/patrol-craft as well as local defensive squadrons comprised of FACs Europa defence: B As much as it pains me, permanent emplacement of a second line of defences is currently infeasible. The creation of a single STO-battery would tie up a quarter of our training capacity for fourteen months. Adding the required support and command elements will tie up half of our training capacity for almost two years. If such forces are created in the future, which I strongly urge our leadership to do, priority must be with our extrasolar colonies. I furthermore inquire our scientific to evaluate the possibility to embed civilian archeologists with a small formation of Marines to investigate the alien ruins scattered over our territory. If alien ruins exist we have to know what has lead to the destruction of these colonies. If there is a species killing other aliens, we must need to know as much as possible to properly prepare for a potential conflict.

Survey B We need cheap, longranged survey-craft, not overgunned white elephants. Warships A A well rounded design, capable of limited self-defense. But most crucially, it fulfills the requirement for a longrange vessel. Colony Ships A This class delivers nearly 50% more people to their destinations than the Sufficient class. The option to deliver the necessary infrastructure is neat, but we already have freighters for the job.

ABACC ++++SECRET++++SECRET++++SECRET++++ Union of Terra Army Command Major Kodos ++for internal circulation only++ Our future naval doctrine? It seems the navy-brass is fishing for ideas on how to waste their bloated budget, so here's my two cents (which represents about a quarter of the army budget, but I digress). Right now our fleet consists of a jumble of ships, panic-build to counter an enemy yet to be encountered. We have light, short-legged FACs, backed up by dedicated sensor-platforms. A number of short or medium-ranged multi-role ships and finally a single carrier. This is not a coherent fleet! Future fleet design must follow a strictly defined set of rules, founded in a theoretical framework, which must, by definition, include research and development, academic training, design and procurement of combatant and support-elements and finally deployment doctrines. Our main combat element should consist of the biggest, most heavily armed vessels possible, in order to engage the enemy at range and close to primary fighting range. This requires a ship which is simultaneous capable of offensive action, speed and survivability. Such ships should be backed up by escorts, geared towards missile defense and fast attack craft to pursue the retreating enemy and deliver the ultimate coup-de-grace. Any action must by necessity require the coordinated action of all possible weapons. We propose the following: A massed long-range salvo of missiles, followed by swiftly closing the range and firing constant salvos from large laser-weapons, which affords the best penetration and allows effective combat along a wide selection of ranges. Conclusion of a battle might be afforded by a charge of light craft, either to finish of enemy survivors or cover a retreat of the battle-line. Generally a spirit of aggressive, bold action should be cultivated in the fleet, with individual vessels being either capable of taking the inevitable punishment or being considered expendable. ++Note by Maj. Kodos+++ Let's see how these paper-pushers over at the navy react to this. Boy, I wish I could see the look on their faces when a grunt tells them to do their job. ++++SECRET++++SECRET++++SECRET++++ Nice, my character is both agressive and rude. The sheer possibilities for roleplay there is interesting.

A While being expensive and slower than strictly optimal, this vessel represents the best choice given its intended purpose. It is currently capable of offensive as well as defensive action in defence of our colonies and can perform a wide range of support tasks. Furthermore it is capable of serving in the battleline according to our doctrine as defined previously.

I came up with a short piece of fiction, I hope the tone will fit the Let's Play: Europa Nightmares Colonel Jenda Boros stood at the edge of the frozen cliff and gazed upon the alien landscape stretching towards the strangely curved horizon. Even in the low light provided by the distant sun, the ice was glittering in strange shades of pink and red. She tilted her head back as far as her spacesuits helmet allowed and admired the immense orb of Jupiter hanging above her. Swirls and eddies in psychedelic colors raced over the globe above like a scene from a dreamscape. Or from a nightmare. She added bitterly. She turned towards the team of Union Army engineers surveying the site for one of the huge Dagtekin Kinetics Orbital Intercept guns. The parts were still awaiting transport on Voyager Field, like most of the rest of her brigades heavy equipment. “Spade three-seven, how's it going?” She asked, her suits gear automatically opening a direct line to the leader of the survey-team. A voice fought through Jupiter's electromagnetic moans and howls. “Survey complete, Ma'am. We're ready to cut the foundations.” Answered the huge Nigerian. “Nice to hear, Spade. Another gun to defend this godforsaken hellhole from space-squids.” She quipped, like these guns would make a difference. She still remembered the sky over Budapest being set ablaze by flak and missiles in a futile attempt to stop incoming hyper-sonic cruise-missiles. Today their own missiles were even faster. In the end the defense will come down to the ancient trade of partisan warfare, run to the hills... “You know, Colonel why we're here.” The voice of the engineer shook her from her thoughts. “Duranium, Corundium, Tritanium, Gallicite.” The elements names still sounded like stuff from a cheap novel. And then there are the ruins. As a senior commander she was included in the very short list of people with need-to-know about the ruins. The mere memory of the briefing was enough to promise new nightmares for the arbitrarily defined period of rest in the gloomy three-and-a-half days of Europa. Doors which were ever so slightly out of proportion, cyclopean masonry cut with utterly inhumane precision. Each surface being inscribed with script which overlapped itself like the waves back at lake Balaton. But the most terrifying features were the inscribed reliefs. Radially symmetrical beings, like a hellish hybrid between a squid and a brittle starfish, limbs which were simultaneously used for locomotion, gripping and sight. Mouths which worked like razor-sharp irises. “We're done for today, Ma'am. I suggest heading back to the barracks and hit the racks.” The engineers voice was nearly drowned out by interference. “Care for a drink? I still have a demi-litre of slivovice, perfect for toasting the last gun being surveyed.” Or numbing the mind, lest it summons fresh nightmares.

Well, that escalated quickly, although this was to be expected when the Navy handles things. Industry A Right now, we keep way to many eggs in a single basket, Sol. Each colonized system must be capable of sustaining itself and if possible build and maintain a defensive force, on the ground and in space. Colonial Policy B We don't need more colonies, which we could barely defend. Let's consolidate our gains, fortify and prepare for the coming war. Military B I'm not advocating even the slightest slowdown of naval expansion, I merely note the urgent need for well-rounded, locally produced and capable ground-forces. The last operation showed how even a modest operation depleted our fuel-reserves, having colonies capable of defending themselves, including orbiting battle-stations, would free up forces and fuel-reserves for the battle-fleet. Furthermore the message of the Kooken hinted at some ancient threat, a threat which might have produced the ruins on Europa and Adrantis A II. I must again urge our policy-makers to authorize the creation of a specialized group of embedded scientists and military engineers to investigate these ruins in order to characterize this ancient cataclysm as well as possibly salvage advanced technology. the Kooken B Humanity is for the first time under threat from Xenos. They lulled us into a false sense of security and stabbed us in the back in a futile bid towards reclaiming their fallen empire. We must prepare our forces as fast as possible and carry the battle back to the homeworld of these treacherous Xenos! Tech focus: Defensive The idea of supplementing our armor with shields sounds interesting, any ship which survives an encounter will be avaible to fight again later.

*** Notice *** From: Lt.Col. Kodos To: Our so called 'intelligence detachment Subject: alleged ImInt from the Kooken Pleasure Pits Please stop posting your disgusting smut all over the Brigade-network. Nobody is being fooled by your crudely edited pictures and passing them of as genuine intel. The next soldier found in possesion of such or similar material will face at least ten days of detention for sympathising with the enemy. Everyone who is caught distributing said material will face charges of sedition. That would be all. ***Thought of the day: You cursed rascals, do you want to live forever? (No magic pills for me)***

Capital Ship: H a huge damage output, strong armor and sufficient speed. having an additional shield would be nice, but this curretnly offers only a minor increase in defence. Escort: F Distracting/softening up the enemy with missile salvoes will allow our capitals to close in for the kill. I like the Prometheus-design, but without a dedicated tender this design has no place in the battleline. Commercial hangars allow for repair and refueling, but not rearming of parasite craft and can be build in civilian shipyards. A combination of a civilian tender and a group of FACs could be an interesting idea for support of the battlefleet or defence of outlying colonies.

B The position of the army is clear on this: We must not allow our borders to be violated by our enemies gathering intelligence. We need to demonstrate the will to defend our territory and force the degenerate, depraved enemy to recognice us as equal.

Industry - A currently we are operating at the edge of our industrial capacity. We need to increase our production capabilities and have a robust economy ready to take the strain of a sudden crisis. Any future expansion of our armed forces will require a well-developed logistical network to support production and operations. Colonies - B Our Colonies must support our overall goal of being able to defend the union. Having a large number of unproductive planets draining our wealth will not support this goal. Exploration - C We are currently encircled by hostile or at best potentially hostile alien powers. We need to characterize the extent of these powers and find a way to break this encirclement without gaining new enemies. Fleet - B Without the ability to replace these vessels in a timely manner, we should hang on these ships. I propose a series of upgrades and the formation of a fleet reserve. A new FAC-complex, consisting of command and strike craft and possibly a civilian support ship will serve our future defense needs well. Technology - B As mentioned earlier, our industrial base is perilously thin, we need to long to construct ships, up to the point where newly commissioned units are already obsolete. Rectifyinf this situation will allow a rapid future expansion of our armed forces.

B Make a thunderrun with all actives blasting. Hope you survive. Transmit data anyway. and for my refit: Gladius SEP Currently the Gladius gunboat suffers from obsolete engines, as well as a short range and a missile suit unsuited to its ammo. By updating the missile suit, replacing the engines and adding additional fuel in the space made avaible, the range could be tripled, while maintaining acceptable speed. Additionally, the throwweight of the missile suit could be doubled. code:

Zeus A There are three Missile-cruisers to choose from. I take the one with the biggest alpha-strike. This might help with softening up a Kook capitalship. Artemis C The Oracle fills a crucial role in our order of battle. We need to know what we are going to shoot/run away from. Gladius C Sorry, the shiv does what my design was supposed to do, but better in basically every way.
