Like, it's presumably been a thing in EDM for a while. But the Ocean Eyes intro is also basically audio crack and that was made by two teenagers in California not a shaded dude in Amsterdam. e: I think I remember someone saying it's Young Thug's production that made this mainstream. But the timeline doesn't work and his stuff isn't even the extreme of this. The "I'm going to press this lever all the way to the max even though all the over levers are dialed down" technique has to be from somewhere else.
