Fantastic photo, makes me want to go there! Oops, referring to the Goats photo, sorry, didn't realize someone would post so fast.

I was looking for advice on a nice loop hike and ended up doing a loop around Glacier Peak. I cannot fathom how we have so much beauty in WA.

On Mt Ruapehu, New Zealand's north island. Looking towards Mt Ngauruhoe, which is mount doom from the lord of the rings movies. Only really two large mountains on the north island (Ruapehu and Taranaki) compared to the south island, but better than when I used to live in Sydney at least in terms of access to snow :P

They're doing well, all things considered. Cynthia has a new boyfriend that her parents aren't fond of, but it's more simmering resentment than overt drama.

We were quite lucky that the weather held out as long as it did. The clouds started to move in later in the day, and we had some heavy rain showers over night. Ended up hiking back yesterday through rain, rain/snow mix, and sleet depending on where we were on the trail and the elevation.

I would go back in a heartbeat. I fractured my ankle a month prior to this so the longest hike I could go on was about 15km. I'd love to go back and do a multi-day trip to the backside of the mountains.

It's desert time baby! Took a day off last week, went out to Anza Borrego Desert State Park, and went up Whale Peak from the south.

First bit of the route went by some pictographs

This looks real nice. I think we are going to try and get one more desert weekend in before the season runs out. Temps were manageable?

Oh yeah. A few times it was tempting to take off my light jacket due to the heat around 9-10am but the wind from the storms passing through the county were gusting pretty strong so just kept it on.

Probably going to do one or two more outings if I can.

quote:

Took a buddy on his first backpacking trip. We did the AT Approach Trail from Amicalola Falls and back. Originally we were going to do the whole thing over 3 days, but a mix of schedule mishaps making us start late Fri and the looming hurricane forcing me to return to Florida faster, we did most of the loop on Saturday. Started Fri at 5 and did about 4 miles, then did about 20 on Saturday to Springer and back to Amicalola with a few detours for sights. Finished early this morning with a final few rainy miles back to the car. Definitely pushed his limits but he cycles a lot so his legs were ok, even if his feet were rough this morning. Saw some animals, carried a lot of extra weight to make sure he was comfortable and we had good food, and had a generally great time. Definitely hooked him and he's ready to plan the next trip. My xero sandals were the MVP, no blisters at all. Ready for r2r2r at the GC next month.
