Did nothing come of the IRIS SDK?

Friend posted:So this leak is pretty disappointing, basically just 208 FDS roms, and Balloon Fight is the only new one I think. Funny to see internal runbooks about how they could convert files into something they can play on piracy emulators but pretty boring overall. Dumping clean roms off FDS disks can be tricky business so if nothing else this is a good resource of official clean dumps. Might not wow the masses, but great from a preservation standpoint.

oh my loving god not only a fds leak but a What's Michael game also it's an incredibly good manga and I can't recommend it enough, there's a scanlation somewhere out there

The What's Michael game isn't a new find, it was released in 1987 and the timestamp on my old ROM says it got dumped sometime in December 1996. It is, however, a good find.

Those timestamps aren't reliable because TorrentZip sets all modification dates to December 24, 1996.

RZA Encryption posted:Did nothing come of the IRIS SDK? Might be, nobody seems to care much in the discords I've looked in (TCRF and Rare Gaming Dump) but SDKs are beyond my expertise. Most of this stuff is, but at least I could fart around in discords long enough to figure out how to open the 3D models and find the "Donkey" yoshi's island prototype. Funny you say that because they made a note that their original version of Zelda was broken and "not recorded due to abnormal content. A-side data header on B-side. Not playable." Elsewhere there is this .txt file with a copy of the game and something called "SCAT soft pack": https://twitter.com/Zetsuboushitta/status/1311339716302827520 https://twitter.com/Zetsuboushitta/status/1311342952778788867

Won't lie, if the Megaman Legends 3 stuff turned up, I wouldn't complain.

Dude I know who works at Capcom Europe remarked when I asked about Megaman, "Megaman only ever sold in the US, it's never coming back." Don't know how much that is true but that's what I was told.

I'm pretty sure Mega Man stuff has tended to sell better in Japan than in North America over the years. Could be that Mega Man is unpopular in Europe though.

PAL NES was a smaller piece of the overall market, so it stands to reason there isn't nostalgia for Mega Man thirty years later. Of course if it's gameplay you're after there's about a hundred indies who'd be glad to have the attention. Coffee Jones fucked around with this message at 00:27 on Nov 25, 2020 |

Yeah growing up in the UK I never heard of Megaman until I got into emulation forums and saw people talking about the series. It just never registered with me.

This isn't actually correct. Most Mega Man games sold as well or worse as the US. There is a big neon exception but that is the Mega Man Battle Network franchise which was by far the most significantly popular Mega Man game since like the 1990s. To give you a hint, Mega Man X4 sold about 200,000 copies in Japan, putting it on par with things like "Super Robot Wars Special Disc."

I actually just this month learned what Dizzy was all about from a Stop Skeletons from Fighting video. I remember seeing that 4-in-1 game and somehow thinking that if the devs fit 4 games on to one cart, none of them can be good; my experience with bootleg multicarts was to blame. Welp, guess I was wrong.

Coffee Jones posted:there's Capcom's leak: Devil May Cry and Tron Bonne code bases, another employee email archive leak I think because this is less a leak and more actual data theft. It was stolen and held for ransom and obviously Capcom wouldn't pay because then more stuff would just get stolen, so it's easier to just shut it down once it spreads.

Pre-release Switch SDK documentation has leaked, most interesting is that it includes guidelines on recruiting homebrew hackers to help with their development and dealing with the potential fallout if the public and press found out. https://twitter.com/orcastraw/status/1341178875217408049

Their stalking of Neimod specifically is pretty fascinating. I love this dossier that's like "the greatest threat to our organization is a 26-year-old shut in that lives with his parents and has no friends and eats alone." https://twitter.com/forestillusion/status/1341230631913541633 https://twitter.com/eclipse_tt/status/1341197814706126848

It seems like they could just offer these people jobs normally instead of making insane dossiers on their personal lives and poo poo and it'd work just as well or better

I think the fear is that hiring hackers runs the risk of them leaking tools to the scene or putting in backdoors and tipping the scene off to them.
