Pretty close to new:

Ooo, which path is this? Is this Arabia Mountain bike trail?

Yep! This is South Rockdale Community Park, about five miles south of Panola mountain. The stretch between Arabia and Panola has been super crowded for the last couple of months, so I've been sticking to the less-traveled southern half of the trail.

As a new ‘rona cyclist who’s still pretty out of shape and working on my range and ability to get up hills, any suggestions for easy sections of the Arabia trail? I only recently learned that it exists and is only a 15 min drive from my place and have been planning on going to check it out.

I have a couple friends in Carrollton who’ve said their greenway trail is great but it’s a bigger time commitment to go down there and I probably won’t until I feel confident in my ability to do the full loop.

That trail is mostly up and down - there aren't really many flat spots. Here's the elevation from my ride from Rockdale Community Park to the Monastery to Panola mountain and back, about 1500 feet of climbing over about 18 miles:

The stretches immediately around South Rockdale Community Park and toward the monastery aren't too terrible, since they're mostly along the river, but you'll definitely be on some hills.

I just did monastery to Panola the other day, and yeah it's very hilly. It was nice though. Hardly anyone was out.

The trail is super nice. I attached a gopro to my bars the last time I rode it and got this hyperlapse:

EDIT: Also, ATL people are just coming out of the woodwork here. This is cool.

Alright. Been looking at a lot of bikes. Everything I really liked had a flaw...

Grail CF SL 7.0 - $2,500k, out of stock
Haanjo 7c Carbon - $2,800, out of stock
2019 Salsa Warbird - $2,600, out of stock (called)
Terra C Ultegra - $2,800, out of stock

Any thoughts for something similar that might actually be in stock ? Looking for something I can ride fast on lovely roads and trails and 1-2 times a year take on a multi day, light touring trip. The 2019 Warbird was really promising, but no one has those in stock anymore and the 2020 version doesn't have 105s (2x-11)

Check out the Lauf bikes - they do direct sales and have some stock of stuff in that price range.

Some of this fitting discussion has me wondering why crank arms aren't usually sized in proportion to riders' leg lengths. A tall rider will have a very different range of motion when pedaling on the same cranks that a short person is using, but cranks seem to vary only a little (165-180-ish mm, I think, and not usually chosen in proportion to frame size?). Is there some data that shows that having a proportional pedal stroke radius doesn't matter? Is it just down to manufacturing history?

I've had my Cutthroat for three months, and well, roof racks are dangerous. I've been very good about being careful about obstructions when I've had bikes on my roof rack, but I was leaving the ATL REI parking lot, and I didn't pay enough attention to this:

A low clearance sign that warns you that the sign itself is the low-clearance hazard. Apparently it's meant to keep larger trucks out of the parking lot or something?

Anyway, I drove through, and it destroyed my roof rack and ripped mine and my partner's bikes off the roof of the car:

The bikes seemed surprisingly okay, given what happened. We left them with the REI bike shop (I guess there are worse places to damage your bike than a bike shop parking lot). Some of the damage to the Cutthroat:

And there's a weird hitch in pedaling while in the smaller cogs, so maybe a bent hanger or damaged rear derailleur from the fall. I'm hoping the frame isn't trashed, or that Salsa will cut me a crash replacement discount if it is. Also looking at replacing Amy's Haanjo, since it's my fault it's damaged.

All in all, it was a bad afternoon.

Talk to me about oval chainrings. Are they legit or a gimmick that looks bad

I've got an oval ring on my MTB full time, and it's been very helpful in sudden steep sections where I need to apply more power quickly. I've never used an oval on a 2x or 3x system, though.

Anybody have a favorite couch to century-type plan? My brother, who has done mostly road rides in the 25-mile range, wants to train up for a century in November.
