It's loving stupid that the person in charge of the county has the same title as the people in charge of cities and towns that are within the county. The person in charge of the administrative division known as "county" should not be called a "mayor", they should be called a "count", the title that the word "county" originally comes from

I think the problem is actually still using the word county. We should call them Thunderdomes. I'd much rather live in Thunderdome Salt Lake than Salt Lake County.

It's much more common in older States to still have County Commissioners or a County Council than a Strong Mayor type. Really just depends on whatever archaic laws are kicking around.

I am from Utah and we have a County mayor just in Salt Lake I believe, everywhere else is commissions with weak mayors.
