Good to know, I tried to flip that game on, saw it was in "weather delay" and assumed it was a euphemism

If Ozzie's wrist is bad enough that he's not switch-hitting maybe he should just actually take 3-4 days off, considering he's not really hitting in any case?

(turns out it's Robbie)

Braves (12-10) listed as 1.0 GB of Miami (9-5), so winning the series Sunday I guess puts them in a tie atop the East but Miami would be .600 to Atlanta's .565 so idk?

e: Bohm's terrible inning was slightly less terrible than it appeared in real-time (correct decision)

Oh here's what happened to Chris Martin from The Athletic:

quote:

It has been more than two weeks since Braves reliever Chris Martin was able to eat solid food, but he’s back on the Braves’ active roster, drinking a lot of protein shakes and trying to put some lost weight back on his lanky 6-foot-8 frame.

After a piece of chicken became lodged in his throat, he saw a specialist and had two medical procedures, including one to dilate his esophagus, which had become so narrow that he couldn’t swallow.

quote:

Even though the incident two weeks ago wasn’t the first for Martin, he was frightened and feared the worst at the time until learning he had a benign esophageal stricture.

“They just went in and dilated my esophagus and opened it up as much as they could,” he said. “I’m pretty sure I’m going to have to have a couple more (procedures) in the future, but definitely feeling a lot better than I was a couple of weeks ago.”

If the condition flares again, more invasive treatments include the use of a stent to reopen the esophagus or possibly surgery.

quote:

“I’ve had this pretty much my whole life and never really figured out what was going on, and it just got to the point where, really, I couldn’t swallow,” Martin said. “I feel a lot better now. Still not able to eat solid foods yet. I’m just kind of drinking shakes, trying to get as many calories as I can now.”

Asked how alarming it was to suddenly be unable to swallow the food he was eating, Martin said: “I’ve had issues since I was a kid. This is maybe the third time where I couldn’t swallow at all. It’s been about, I don’t know, 15 years since I really had it where I couldn’t swallow food at all. Yeah, it was scary. More scared that it could be something else. I’m just glad we kind of got that over with; now I can just focus on baseball.”

Concurrent competitions is the thing I'd love American sports to steal from soccer (way more practical than promotion/relegation) but why in this way? I'm sure we'll hear this number on the next Effectively Wild but what's the win probability for the best MiLB team against the worst MLB club? And aside from the aggregate player quality, minor league rosters are just not managed for the purpose of winning baseball games.

KICK BAMA KICK
Mar 2, 2009

I assume they'd seed it to make it highly improbable to play your own MLB club but yeah that scenario or your AAA manager showing up the big league club seem like obvious conflicts.
