I think any team would put out a similar statement if a player went AWOL. Not sure why people think they smeared him or w/e.

I feel like reactions to everything this season are over the top. Like I'm loving the gently caress out of Judge but like... its like 5 games. People yelling "MVP" and "GOAT" and I'm just curious to see if I have to look up if Mattingly and Griffey still have the record at 8 straight games with a HR.

Well yeah, everyone's starved for baseball and the season is insanely short and could be cancelled at any time, of course people are overreacting. On that note, let me tell you about how Mike Yastrzemski will win NL MVP

I don't see what the Hamilton trade has to do with it. Billy Hamilton is a centerfielder and Cespedes is DHing this year.

Were players always supposed to self-quarantine or did that get added in after the Marlins outbreak?

What are the rules anyway, are they supposed to literally confine themselves to the hotel room or their house? Can they hit up the grocery store, or go jogging?

Also there were a ton of articles about how the Astros were the greatest team of all time, with the best offense and rotation of all time, and their tank and rebuild was the model for other teams going forward, etc. Even before the trash can banging people were getting sick of the hype.

Tatis Jr. gonna win MVP but maybe Yaz will finish 2nd :unsmith:

Hah, unless Farhan trades him at the deadline, which is in like 10 days lmao. What a weird bastard season.

Very interested to see Mize pitch. I think Giants fans are always gonna have an eye on him, because Panda hit that walkoff HR in the last game of the 2017 season, which cost us the #1 pick. Joey Bart also looks good tbf.

Not expecting him, or any prospect, to dominate immediately, but they say he is extremely polished already. Threw a 9-inning no-hitter in his AA debut!

Highlights from this season are gonna look so weird in a few years

Like you're watching a montage of Mike Trout walkoff home runs and they're all normal, and then there's a HR into some empty seats covered with a tarp. Or Kershaw strikes out the side to finish a CGSO and the team runs onto the field, and the camera pans over to... a bunch of cardboard cutouts with grins frozen in place.

Giants win their 6th straight, to finish the first half 14-16 and on a hot streak.

Prior to the trade to san francisco Mike Yastrzemski was basically seen as a Quad-A corner OF. Solid defense, but not like, good enough to play center. Good eye, but the contact came and went and he maxed out at 15 home runs in the minors.

So of course, he goes to the giants, makes the majors and decides he's going to hit for more power than he ever did in the minors. Baseball is weird sometimes

Yeah you just never know. The Orioles probably wish they held on to Yaz, but then again, their best player this year is Anthony Santander, an OF they got from Cleveland in the rule 5 draft.

Lots of conflicting info on twitter. People are saying both teams walked off the field, but then both teams released lineups:

, but maybe those are posted automatically? Or maybe there's like a power struggle behind the scenes right now?

Gary Sanchez, who has hit .130 and struck out 41% of the time this year, gets the dreaded Vote Of Confidence from Brian Cashman

quote:

The Yankees are standing by Gary Sánchez as their starting catcher, despite his offensive woes thus far this season. Cashman said that he believes a lack of consistent at-bats due to the stop-start nature of the season has hindered Sánchez, who entered play on Saturday batting .130.

“We are going with Gary Sánchez,” Cashman said. “He is by far our best option on both sides of the ball. We look forward to him finding his groove sooner than later, because we need it. I still have confidence in the player. This is a unique season and you’re seeing struggles from successful players around the game.”

Catching up on the trades that went down today. Seems like teams were basically giving away serviceable starting pitchers (Walker, Stripling, Ray, Minor), which makes sense I guess, since you're only getting them for a month. Except for Stripling; that trade surprises me.

OTOH GMs were trading real prospects for mediocre relievers. Those RPs the Padres got from the Mariners look pretty blah, Orioles got a haul for Mychal Givens, the Royals got an actual prospect for Trevor Rosenthal, etc

Giants didn't do much. Not surprising since our 2 biggest trade chips were Cueto and Gausman, who weren't getting us much in this SP market. And with the Giants hanging around the wildcard race, no need for a fire sale.
