Milovan Drecun posted:Oh hey, remember when we were talking about how garbage RBIs are? I love Max, but do yourselves a favor and check out the br pages on these two, it shows exactly how misleading counting stats can be. I dunno how to get the last 162 games, but Judge had to be something like 20 to 30 points of OPS+ better over that same span. Yeah if you click through, people in the comments were pointing out that Judge's OBP is like 50 points higher so I would assume the OPS+ is about that different. Kepler probably plays better defense though

Cubs are barely on the podium, behind the Yankees and Twins (who win the tiebreak with the Cubs using the extremely unbiased tiebreak of run differential)

Playing decent defense seems significantly easier than hitting ML pitching think of it this way you have to judge and react towards catching a ball coming at you faster than a pitcher throws it, except the hitter isn't trying to aim at a 2x2 foot box

Milovan Drecun posted:I kind of disagree. Positioning most of the time is handled by coaching staffs and front offices. The 'flashy play doesn't equal good play' thing is true, but as I understood it, Jeter's range not his positioning limited him. Moreover, flashy plays can also be good plays too. I'd argue great defenders are those capable of both flashy plays and making more plays routine. Consistency and first step/route taking are also important components which differentiate players, regardless of the players positioning. I really wish there was a highlight compilation of balls hit to the gap that would be easy doubles normally but Buxton just casually runs them down and catches them like routine fly balls. Stuff like that never makes the highlight reels, obviously, but he makes them all the time. This is a bit of an extreme example because it might have made a highlight reel but like, it's ridiculous how much ground he covers and he doesn't even have to dive or even fully extend himself to catch it https://streamable.com/uokoix

The theme of today's TwinsFact™ is the number three. We are roughly a third of the way through the season, and even though Byron Buxton has about two thirds as many plate appearances as Mike Trout, his (b)WAR is nearly three times higher. Thank you for subscribing to TwinsFacts™
