Oh man. I read these books in my early/mid-teens (by picking them out because of their covers, as appears to be true of everyone who read them at that age), and every so often, twenty years later, I think "man, I kind of want to reread them" and can't find them anywhere. Googling the author got me mostly her romance works if I found her at all, and I'd almost convinced myself I'd imagined reading this series. I'm loving this breakdown, especially going over plot beats that I somehow liked as a teen and now finding them.... um, lacking. Thank you for this!
